Ill. Sir Paul Brigitzer

Here we are in September already and it’s been a busy challenging year so far. I want to thank everyone for having an awesome turn out for our parades, there are just a few more to go. Monday, September 2, we have one of our largest parades of the year - Holiday at Home. The Legion of Honor, Greeters, and Bobbies have offered seats on their rigs to all Antioch Ladies who wish to ride in this parade. If you haven’t experienced a parade from the

perspective of our Nobles, this is your chance. Just see any Divan Lady at staging for a seat! I hope everyone can come out and take some time on this holiday to help raise awareness of our Shrine.

Regarding some of our remaining parades, the date and time of the Brookville Parade is incorrect as published. This parade has been changed to Wednesday evening, October 2. Staging is at 6 PM. I know this is tough to get to for many of us, but it has been several years since we have participated at Brookville and I hope many of us can be there. Information will be updated on the website soon and a constant contact will be sent.

Monday, September 9, is our Stated Meeting. This will be an important meeting to attend. We will be discussing Antioch’s finances for the remainder of the year and into the future. I hope as many of you who are able can attend. There is a Lady’s program that night as well, put on by the Membership Committee.

Sunday, September 15, Antioch was asked to help with a fundraiser for the victims of the shooting in the Oregon District. We are partnered with the group “For the Love of Dayton” for this event. There will be bands, vendors, and tattoo artists filling our Temple from noon until 10 PM raising money for the victims through the Dayton Foundation (www.daytonfoundation.org). Antioch will benefit from the bar sales and splitting some games of chance and selling instant bingo tickets. We will need some help bartending, selling bingo tickets, showing curious folks around our building etc. I will have more details to follow. If you can give some time for Antioch and this great cause, please contact me.

PHOTOUNITBy Noble Bruce E. Puff Summer’s coming the an end, all the Kids, Grandkids are back in school, and how quiet is it around the House, even the dog is silent, the fridge is full, as we pause to scroll though all the snapshots taken. The Photo Unit has become the Visual Story Teller for Masonry and Shrinedom. Our Photos, Pictures, are the thousand words, that stir Our Emotion, all coming from the same place, smiles for the shinny old car, laughter for the clowns, tears for the injured child, and anger for a unnecessary death, that is so close to Our Homes. All captured on film, for All of Us to take Action, or ask a few serious questions. Stated Meeting, Sept. 9th. 7:00 pm. Upper Ballroom, Antioch, see if Our Photogs can everyone in one Frame. The Photo Unit meets the 4th Wed. of every Month, at Antioch, 7:30 pm. Nobles, & Ladies, All welcomed. Thanks to Frank Klugh for introducing Jessica to all of Us at the Sweet Corn Picnic. She had been a Lexington Patience.

PROVOSTGUARDBy Noble Tom Hail What a great summer we have had with our Shrine Parades and events. Our unit may be small in number but we rock in getting parade maps sent out, staging areas assigned, pull-out orders implemented, a coffee & donut stand stocked and of course, two golf carts with coolers full of ice cold water for our fellow Nobles and Ladies. Now, a note about this month’s meeting on Wednesday, September the 4th. Our regular dinner-meetings at the Rib House in Vandalia are now just a memory. The Rib House closed their doors after 38 successful years in business. We have been hard on the trail of finding another meeting place. An alternate restaurant has been chosen to try out for this month’s meeting. It is Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant at 215 W, Main Street in Fairborn so, come check it out!

Remember our troops fighting in harm’s way to keep us free and say a prayer they all safely return home.

God Bless America.

By Noble Louis Caston, Past Commander

Legion ofHonor

CLASSICCARBy Jim Matthews, Director

Our 15th annual car show is now history – and - a big THANK YOU to all Nobles, Units, and Clubs who helped make it a success. The car show would not be possible without the help and participation of the entire Shrine family. September will be a very busy month. We have four parades – Kettering Holiday at Home, St Paris Pony Wagon Days, GLSA, and Urbana – the Sportsman raffle on September 7th, and our annual Classic Cars picnic on September 8th. (A big thank you to Tom and Nancy Lees for hosting the picnic) Driving Tip -- Tips for fall driving are to watch out for leaves, Stay alert on the road as children are back in school, check your tire pressure, plan ahead for wet conditions, use low beams when driving in foggy conditions, and most of all be alert for deer.

BOBBIE BITSBy Noble James Zell

ANTIOCHSENIORSBy Noble Bruce E. Puff

Greetings fellow Nobles, The Sportsmen’s Raffle is fast approaching and each member of your award winning Bobbies have sold at least one book of tickets each. We challenge every other unit to have 100% participation as well. Our raffle will be bigger and better than last year so our efforts to sell tickets must match the scope of the event. August was a busy month for the Bobbies, our summer picnic was a great time, thanks to Director Ayers for securing the Springfield Shrine Club for the event. The Motor Corps Car Show on the 25th was fantastic, our own Noble Barbarino won an award for his 1947 Plymouth Special Two Door Sedan (thanks Babs for the extended description) in the show, great job! Also, the Bobbies Fish fry is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th from 5:30-9:30 PM to be held at the Antioch Shrine. Please come out, we promise it will be a great time! As you all know consistency is paramount to maintain excellence in anything you do. We would like to congratulate Noble James Zell for his taking in second place in every individual event at the 2019 Imperial (including an impromptu 2 AM foot race). At our August meeting, two DUITS badges were given, one to Noble Shannon Zell for taking the trailer to Nashville and the other to Noble Fodor for taking the picture that became the cover photo of the August Crier. Congratulations men! And finally, Noble Marker won the Klutz Award over many deserving nominees including those that added to the difficulty of our obstacle course by leaving pieces of his Skat Kitty on the course, those that brought their own competition towel to inspection, and someone that dropped the back of the rig on his fellow Bobbie. We are sure Noble Marker will do a better job packing his clothes in the future. As always, it’s a great day to be a Bobbie! #DUITS

The Senior’s, Noble Bruce E. Puff Summer is coming to an end, a few more Parades, and the Grandkids are back in school. How quite is it now around the Homestead, the Little Ones are always asking all though questions, just like we, Adult Nobles do at Antioch. Attending all the Stated Meeting, Unit & Club Meetings to?. Do We get an allowance?, do We have Times Outs, if someone misbehaves?, or go to the Pote’s Office for a paddling? Well, not quite, But, even with Senior’s, We still talk Antioch’s Policies, Transparence of the Finances, and who does or say what. Enough Politics, Stated Meeting, Sept. 9th, 7 p.m. came a little early for a good parking spot, 6:15/6:30 p.m., and Socialize. Senior’s Meeting every Tuesday, doors open at 9 a.m. for a little card playing and a lot of talking, a $1 donation, get You doughnuts, coffee and/or tea. The 2nd Tuesday of the Month, Senior’s puts out a Brunch Bar, for a $4 donation. See Everyone at the Stated Meeting, with a list of Your questions!

Greeters meeting followed the Seniors great breakfast held the second Tuesday of each month. Jim brewer reported a total of 36 participants at the greeters Shipshewana trip held in July. It was a session of great food and fellowship. If you need a Greeters uniform or if you are interested in ordering a new Greeters Polo shirt contact Don Hoke with your size. Dress uniform is burgundy sport coat with grey slacks black shoes and Greeters tie. Our Divan Rep Jerry Jamieson announced that Antioch stated meeting will be held Sept. 9, Jerry encouraged everyone to support sportsman raffle as it is becoming our biggest fundraiser. All donations are greatly appreciated. Noble Jim Mack will announce the details of Antioch’s golf outing at our next meeting. Frank Finney & Lisa Davis will host our picnic Sunday Sept 15, 2:00 pm. Greeters had a great time at Cabiri Steak Fry where Ralph Saum with his 75 years of dedication to Antioch Shrine was honored. President Bob Davis welcomes new members to join the unit, see any Greeter for a petition. Special thanks to our Antioch Seniors for another great breakfast. Support your Masonic affiliations.

ANTIOCHGUN CLUBBy Noble Tom Hail The month of September brings our members and their Annie Oakleys to the annual Gun Club Family Picnic. It will be held on Wednesday, September 18th (our regular meeting date) at President Free and his Lady Margaret’s home. The Social hour will start at 6:00pm and the food will be served at 7:00pm. Nobles bring lawn chairs and Annie Oakleys bring their favorite dessert. Lady Margaret and the Club will provide everything else. Since we have been dark July and August, the picnic will give us an opportunity to get back together and hear funny (or not so funny) stories of some fantastic summer memories.

I hope everyone had a great summer! I just wanted to remind you that we will be resuming our monthly meetings this month, since going dark for the summer. It will be on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 7pm. This is the 3rd Thursday instead of the 4th due to the Imperial Convention taking place September 25-27, 2019 in Florida. Thank you for your support of Elissa and see you at the meeting!

Fellow Nobles and Friends:

I’ve said “thank you” before but this one is by far the most meaningful. To be the first Guest of Honor at your CABIRI steak dinner last Saturday evening, August 17th was the “thrill of my lifetime.” I was honored and so well received by this distinguished group of Antioch’s own Past Imperial Potentate, Tad, our Present Potentate, Paul, and the many Past Potentates who are members of CABIRI that were present. Starting in the year 1944, my twin brother and I became Antioch Shriners joining our father and two uncles in the Saum love for Shrinedom. After 75 years at Antioch, I am still a proud member of the Shrine Brass Band under the leadership of Past Potentate Ed Molen. Thank you for all the gifts and cards. I truly appreciate them and all that you did to make the evening a success. Also a large “THANK YOU” to all of the Shrine Ladies, who worked so hard to make the evening successful and contributed in so many ways. I hope you will return for this annual fund-raising affair.

Yours in the faith,

Ralph Saum

P.S. HOORAY! As of this writing, Ed Molen is now home from the hospital.

On August 2, 2019 the Fraternal Order Of Eagles Post 1291 in Celina, OH along with Noble John Buzard and Lady Joyce held their 1st annual golf outing for the Shriners Hospital. Iris August and her family was our guest. Iris was born with Arthrogyrposis Multiplex Congenita. (She was born with a heart shaped body.) Iris is 9 years old. Iris has been a patient since almost birth. She has had several surgeries and many sets of braces. With the help of Lexington Hospital, doctors and nurses she is walking with the aid of braces. Iris wanted to thank Lexington hospital staff for all their aid, and Celina Eagle golfers for their commitment in helping children.
