The Traditional Father’s Day Gift: A Necktie Father’s Day is June 19 this year, and millions of fathers in the United States will bask in familial attention and be showered with gifts—mostly neckties. Where do neckties come from? The earliest known version dates back to 210 B.C., when the Chinese emperor Shih Huang Ti was buried in the ancient Chinese capital Tian. The 7,500 terra cotta warriors built to guard him in the afterlife all wore neck cloths, for reasons unknown. Similarly, the Roman emperor Trajan erected a marble column in 113 A.D. commemorating a military victory; the 2,500 soldiers depicted all wore some form of cloth neck covering. The modern necktie evolved from the small, knotted neckerchiefs worn by Croatian mercenaries working for the French in the Thirty Years’ War. The word cravat derives from a combination of the French “Croate” and the Croatians’ own name for themselves, “Hrvati.” With the rise of the business class in the 19th century, demand grew for neckware that was durable, comfort-able, and easy to tie. In 1926, a New York tie maker named Jesse Langsdorf developed a technique that improved the tie’s elasticity, which allowed it tomore easily revert to its original shape. The “Langsdorf” became the most common form of necktie. Since then, ties have widened as far as 4.5 inches and thinned to 3 inches (or skinnier) depending on the current style, but they seem to be here to stay.

Give Dad Something Special on Father’s Day Fathers play a special role in people’s lives. Let them know that. On June 19, skip the tie and tell your dad what he means to you from the bottom of your heart. Some suggestions: • Writealetterthankingyourfather.Talkabout

all he’s done and all he means to you. Read it in front of him and the whole family. You can frame it and even add photos or other mementos.

• Writeathank-youbook.Buyasmallbookofblank pages. On each page, record something you’re thankful for. Example: “Thanks, Dad, for all the help you provided on my algebra homework when I was a kid.” Send it around to your other siblings and have them contrib-ute their own thoughts of gratitude.

• Createarecordofyourfather’slife.Getfam-ily members and old friends to write down their memories of your father. Then write a script incorporating all the stories and present it to him.

New Trash ProgramLies Waste Systems

*** Lies Trash and Recycle will now pickup on Mondays starting June 6, 2016 going forward. Lies Waste Systems is a locally owned and fam-

ily operated trash company. CCWNA has partnered with Lies Waste Systems to bring our residents a low cost trash and recycling pro-gram that also gives back to our community. For every resident that utilizes this program, CCWNA will receive a contribution of $2 per month to go towards neighborhood improvements and projects. We believe that this partnership will go a long way towards improving our community while also saving residents money on trash and recycling collection services. Other advantages include supporting local business and allowing individual residents the flexibility to choose the services that they want and/or need. The pricing for this program is listed below:

* $39 every three months for weekly trash service. $6 every three months will be added to the bill as a CCWNA contribution, which will be transferred to CCWNA once pay-ment is received. Total cost will be $45 every three months.

* Optional Add-On Service: $6 every three months for biweekly recycling service.

* Optional Add-On Service: $3 every three months for (1) 96 gallon cart rental.

To start new service with Lies Waste Systems, you can call the office at 303-286-6700 (please mention that you are part of CCWNA) or sign up online at lieswastesystems.com/ccwna.

****If bill is paid on an annual basis there is a 10% discount that applies to trash only..i.e 45.00x 4(quarterly payments) = $180.00 less 10% ($18.00) =$162.00.

Be Efficient To Get More Done If you want to get more accomplished at work, start developing these essential habits to increase your effi-ciency on the job: • Turn off cell phone alerts. Resist the tempta-

tion to stop what you’re doing every time your phone beeps with a new message. You’ll be better able to focus on tasks when you’re not constantly distracted and interrupted.

• Fine-tune your to-do list. When planning your day, add estimated times to each item on your to-do list. This will help you decide what to do first and what can be saved for later.

• Run two-minute drills. Every few hours, look at your list for tasks that can be done quickly—answering emails and phone calls, confirming appointments, and the like. Spend a few min-utes clearing those away, and you’ll have more blocks of uninterrupted time to take on bigger tasks.

• Take regular breaks. You’ll burn out if you go full throttle for eight or 10 hours. Determine how long you can effectively concentrate on a single task (usually between 30 minutes and an hour, for most people). Take a break after that time—walk around, get out of the building, talk to co-workers—and you’ll return feeling refreshed.

Reach Success On Your Own Terms We all think we know what success is and how to achieve it. But the most successful people know that their goals and achievements are uniquely shaped by their individual personalities. Examine your own ideas about success to sharpen your commitment to attaining it: • Definesuccessforyourself.Forgetaboutother

people and their vision of success. Think about what you value. Ask yourself how you’ll know when you’ve “succeeded.”

• Learn to recognize it. What will success looklike? Feel like? Are you sure you’ll be able to recognize it when you get there? (Many people struggle for more and more rewards without realizing their satisfaction with the first few.)

• How close are you now? Take a look at whatyou’ve already accomplished, and compare your current situation with your position when you started working toward your goals. You may be closer to success than you think.

• Whatmoredoyouneedtodo?Identifyspecific, concrete steps that must be achieved before you reach your own goal. Select three things you can do right now—today—that will bring you closer to your ultimate success. Then start working on them.
