About us

Ikibro is a privately owned company focusing on the production of

custom steering wheels for yachts. The owners are two brothers for whom

sailing has been a life long passion since early childhood. The brothers are

fourth generation master woodworkers who have combined their skill and

love of sailing to restore as well as build fine wooden yachts. They have

developed the LWR (laminated wood rim) system for custom steering

wheels design and production. Each wheel is built individually with the

utmost care and to the highest quality standards.

Ikibro is proud to offer custom helm wheels suited for both sail and

motor yachts with worldwide availability.

In compliance with ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007

standards, the Integrated Management System is used in our establish.

In compliance with 5S principles, the GWP (Good Workplace Practices)

method is practiced in all production areas.

Type A

İkibro wheels will ensure the quality of your boat with their exquisite handmade wooden

rims and first quality stainless steel polished craftsmanship. The 32 mm thick wooden rim made

using the LWR technique is eye-catching both in terms of its warm appearance, its sturdiness,

and ergonomic usage. The tandem spokes in the type “A” group which add an extraordinary

strength to the wheel are 12 mm in diameter and are made from first quality 316 stainless steel

solid metal. The hub which bears no welding marks is also made from first quality 316 stainless

steel. Thanks to the universal adapter, İkibro wheels can be fitted easily.

Type B

The 7 tapered spokes in type “B” are 21 mm in diameter and are made from first quality

316 stainless steel. The angled inset of the spokes onto the hub ensures maximum durability. The

hub which bears no welding marks is also made from first quality 316 stainless steel.

İkibro offers you the option to present your very own design which will make your boat

even more special for you, and guarantees to prepare your custom design steering wheel

from first quality material. Custom designs of your choice and preference are prepared in 3D

on the computers in our office, and technical details and requirements are dealt with during

this early process. If you want, durability tests are performed by our testing department.

Technical details

The LWR Technique,

The LWR technique produces a uniform wheel which is integrated as a single piece. The

superior strength and reliability of the wheel lies in the unique LWR laminating system which pro-

duces a wheel without joints.

Traditional wooden wheel construction techniques, unlike the LWR technique, require the

use of 8 or more joints. Overtime these joints are subject to failure due to stresses associated

with changes in temperature, humidity and mechanical forces. Ultimately wooden wheels

which are joined are subject to multiple points of failure and may rely solely upon the adhesive

bond to hold the joint together. These bonds may fail as well.

LWR technique produces a wooden wheel of exceptional quality and reliability without

any joints or potential failure points. Superior strength is achieved by optimizing the direction of

the wood grain during the application of many fine layers of laminate during the manufacturing

process. Another benefit associated with the superior strength characteristics of the LWR manu-

facturing process is a wheel that is also lighter than other wheels of a similar size. Ikibro wheels

are aesthetically pleasing and better suited to withstand the elements.

Coating,

We choose to use high quality products by BASF to ensure our steering wheel rims are

resistant to all types of weather conditions; to water, to the sun, and temperature differences.

Stainless Steel,

All stainless steel pieces are made from first quality 316 stainless steel and are polished

by expert craftsmen with great care.

Install,

Each steering wheel comes with a total of three adapters: one delrin adapter com-

patible with 25 mm tapered shaft, one delrin adapter compatible with 25 mm straight

shaft, and one solid without hole delrin adapter. You can fix the appropriate adapter onto

your shaft and complete the fitting of your wheel by simply fixing it onto the adapter as

shown in the image below.
