WELCOME TO AUGUST AT IKEA

This month we’re happy to introduce a look that’s all about connecting to yourself. It’s about creating a home that makes room for you – that’s personal, organized and comfortable. The style is minimalist Scandinavian, the mood is poetic and the colours range from soft pastels to graphic monochromes.

Storage and organizing is a big theme this launch. There’s a new heavy-duty storage series that can hold the heaviest of loads, while another storage system gains a fashionable update. For the kitchen, there’s a series of traditional-styled storage, along with a matching sink and faucet that’s water-saving. Of course, we focus on sustainability with our new products, with for example textiles made of 100% cotton from more sustainable sources and a curtain made of recycled PET.

The month brings a bunch of new textiles like curtains, cushions and a throw – perfect for cocooning moments. New designed lamps set the mood from pendant lamps to table lamps. And smaller pieces like candle holders and a watering can add a glimpse of brass and a final personal touch. VADHOLMA KITCHEN STORAGE

No matter what style of kitchen you prefer, with IKEA you can create your own personalized kitchen. For a traditional look, VADHOLMA kitchen storage is ideal with its brown stained ash that brings in warmth and nature. Actually, the storage is inspired by the style of an old bakery or butcher shop.

The kitchen island has a real butcher block look, even though it’s made with engineered wood that uses a layer of solid oak on top of particle board. The construction is similar to solid wood in touch and feel, but has better quality properties – it’s more resistant to bending and cracks. It can be sanded and retreated just like a solid wood counter top. To the kitchen island it’s possible to add a rack, so it turns into a perfect preparation station in the kitchen. It lets you hang hooks for utensils so there’s easy access to things needed when preparing food.

VADHOLMA kitchen storage also includes removable shelves and drawer units that optimise storage. There’s even a wine shelf that keeps bottles safely in place.

EVEDAL LAMPS

A lamp can be a decorative element in itself. Like EVEDAL lamps made in a Scandinavian design with genuine and honest materials. The British designer Aaron Probyn has used a double-layered glass shade, a marble foot and brass details, as he explains further: “I always want to design products that feel timeless and genuine, both in shape and material. The EVEDAL series is inspired by Scandinavian design from the mid-20th century. BROR SERIES

Heavy-duty storage for a hobby room or garage can be so good-looking that you may want to have it in the rest of the home, or a closed balcony. When developing BROR series, the ambition was to develop the strongest shelving units so far at IKEA. All with a clean, industrial design that means they’re a stylish fit anywhere.

Made in black powder-coated galvanized steel, BROR series consists of shelves, a cabinet and a trolley with a wood top. It can be built to suit individual needs, withstanding damp, dust and heavy loading. The widest and deepest shelves actually hold 130 kg and the smallest shelves can hold 70 kg. This means that you can store both tyres and heavy flower pots without problems. An essential part of developing BROR was testing the shelves, as Product Developer Engineer Philip Nedergaard explains:

“We built some of what we call ‘worst-case scenarios’ by loading the shelves high with concrete bags to really test that the shelves could safely hold almost anything you would want to keep.”

The result is hard-working storage that doesn’t carry a heavy price tag!
