Interview of AIR 1 in IIT-JEE

Q. Arv ind, how y ou used to relax y ou after continuousstudy for long periods?

Walking around in fresh air..

Q. What were the things y ou used to keep in mindbefore taking any exam?

I used to formulate a strategy of order of solv ingproblems - What level of hardness of problems I shouldstart with and how to schedule them. Also an attemptto analy se all prev ious exam papers and keep track ofsilly mistakes one is likely to commit

Q. What mistakes y ou commited during y ourprepartion?

A.1 . Related to course : During earlier stages ofprepartion, I tried to flood my self with lot of problemsfrom lots of sources without even hav ing my basicconcepts clear.Clarity of concepts is absolutelyimportant before solv ing problems.

2. Related to exams: Must go into exams after properrest.

3. Related to rev ision: Try ing to cover a lot of newmaterial & ignoring those done long time ago.

Q. What is y our v iew regarding rev ision By what timestudents should be able to finish their prepartion andshould start rev ision ?

A. I think rev ision is best done by taking a mix of newor untried( by self) problems from all topics of asubject and working them in timed exam likecondition. In my opinion there need not be any hurry

for starting rev ision, whenever started, the entiresubject should have been completed.

Q. How many hours y ou think one should devote dailyfor prepartion ?

A. I wont like to suggest number of daily hours ofstudy -as long as one is gaining enough confidence insolv ing problems.

Q. What was y our idea about IIT before entering andwhat is y our idea about it now ?

A. There is too much of hy pe surrounding IIT andIITians , in my case, all after all are human beings.

Q. When exactly y ou had started y our prepartion ?

A. Soon after my class X examinations.

Q. Any thing y ou want to share from y ourside that y outhink would be helpful for students preparing for IIT ?

A. Before jumping to problems ,pay full emphasis onconcepts. Emphasis must be given to mockexaminations to develop proper paper tacklingapproach.

Q. Which books y ou consider are must for prepartion ?

A.1 . Mathematicsa. S L Loney -trignometry & coordinate geometryb. TMH- IIT Mathematics(esp algebra)c. M L Khanna -IIT Mathematics
