IT’S A ‘SWEET’ DEAL– MEMBERSHIP SOCIAL
IIDA’s Houston City Center Membership Event was so SWEET this year! The event was held at Local Food’s in Rice Village, where more than 75 people joined us to learn about IIDA and the benefits of membership. The theme of this year’s event was: Membership, It’s a SWEET Deal! The theme was seen all over the venue as fun, colorful candy stations were set up throughout the space. Each station allowed attendees to grab a sweet treat and hear about the great benefits of joining IIDA.
We also had a “Join Now!” membership table, where many signed up and joined that evening. It is so exciting to see new members getting excited about what is going on in the Houston Interior Design Community. Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun, it truly is the people that make the experience of IIDA so SWEET!
If you missed the event, don’t worry! You can join now for the upcoming 2013 IIDA year. A special thank you to Local Foods, a great restaurant, that has a high focus on keeping their food local and practicing sustainable principles in their business. What a great venue for an organization like IIDA that places such high regards on sustainability and the value of being involved in our city. This event also could not have been possible without the help of some key volunteers, including: Derek Smith of Herman Miller, Joanna Prazak of CRG, Kristy Emmrich of Gensler, and all those that volunteered the night of the event! Thank you to our Membership Chair, Lindsey Craig of MDI Resources for throwing a great event.

This year
the Art & Artifacts
Auction will be a
little different
from years past. Yes, that’s right– you will NOT have to stand in
LONG lines at the end of the night to pay for your items.
There will be a link on the invitation taking you to the
Greater Giving website to purchase your Art & Artifacts tickets,
submit underwriting info, etc. (See link at the end of the article
as well). You can then save your credit card information online
to use for the auction. There will also be an auction registration
table the night of the event to save your credit card info before
and during the auction.

TAID UPDATE
Texas Association for Interior Design (TAID) held their annual Art Gala September 13th, 2012 at Skyline Art Services. Local artists showcased everything from artwork to jewelry to handmade soap with 40% of sales benefiting TAID. Designers and Industry professionals could compete for raffle items and silent auction items. The event helped raise money for TAID as well as raise awareness of Interior Design legislative issues. With the first day of fall already behind us, summer has come and gone in a flash. That means a new IIDA year is upon us --
and we’ve hit the ground running!
In July, the 2012-2013 Chapter Board members were graciously hosted by Armstrong at their headquarters in historic
Lancaster, Pennsylvania for a 4-day orientation retreat. Shortly thereafter, Chapter held two fabulous events in Dallas:
METROCON12 and the Chapter Awards Gala, which celebrated design excellence and outstanding volunteerism.
Here in Houston, the new City Center Council has gathered and already begun planning an exciting year of events focused
on bringing knowledge, value and inspiration to our members. We kicked off the year with our annual Membership Social
and Industry Roundtable, and October’s Art & Artifacts is quickly approaching.
I know it will seem like a whirlwind in the end, but I’m looking forward to another great year for IIDA in Houston as we
continue the momentum set forth the last few years. We are lucky to have some of the best volunteers, underwriters and
Chapter Partners in our City Center, all of whom offer amazing support, allowing us to grow and improve year after year.
I’m dedicated to make this year another successful one and can’t wait for what’s to come!

The IIDA Houston City Center is a proud supporter of the Houston Furniture Bank, a truly worthwhile organization that provides furniture and household items to needy families in our area. This year, to celebrate 20 years of charitable giving, the Houston Furniture Bank is marking their anniversary with a Gala on Thursday, November 8th at 7:00PM in the beautiful lobby of Williams Tower. The event is sure to draw the Who’s Who of Philanthropists and Socialites and will include live music, fabulous food and a silent auction & raffle.
