Optics of the 40m Radio Telescope

Main diameter: 40 meters.

Secondary diameter: 3.28 m.

F/D=0.375, Fe/D=7.9 (Mag=21.09)

▫ Mounting: Az/El, turning head over

bearing.

▫ Operation: Primary and Nasmyth.

▫ Aperture efficiency (150µµµµm rms): 70% @ 7mm, 50% @ 3mm.

▫ Pointing: requirement (5’’ @ 10m/sec), 1’’ servosystem
