The school year theme is Oh the Places We'll Go! and the students are already off to a great start! Items to note: 1. Students have started collecting pledges for our annu-al Jogathon on October 12th at the Milwaukie High School Track! The Theme is "Race to the Moon". If you know anyone who would like to be a sponsor for the jogathon, please have them contact the school office! 2. Students in the leadership class are doing a coin drive to benefit the families of those who have been affected by the Eagle Creek fire. All proceeds will be sent to the American Red Cross in support of the families. 3. We have a Loom Knitting class for one of the middle school electives this year. Projects created in the class will be donated to an organization that is still to be deter-mined. Anyone with worsted chunky/bulky weight yarn which is #4 and above can bring to the school office!

School News
Formed I hope you tried to watch the first videos under the title Symbolom, Journey of Faith Trinity, Faith & The God who is love. If this session was too long for you I invite you to go to study then down to the youth heading and watch the ver-sion for the youth called Symbolm for YDisciples: Creed. This week we will cover Divine Revelation. Do I need any-thing more than the Bible to learn about God? What is the Magistriam, the Deposit of Faith. This session will cover: Divine Revelation: why and how God reveals himself to us, Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s revelation, The trans-mission of Divine Revelation through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, The Magisterium as the authoritative in-terpreter of Scripture and Tradition. Today, many people tend to think they can decide for themselves what is true, and what is morally right or wrong, and ultimately decide on their own what God wants for their lives. Online faith formation Parish code :7GGJ7J. Check out the new programs on Formed. Formed is an online Catholic Education site. This is a free site to all parishioners. Liturgy Corner Compiled by Pat Raschio (sources Formed, At Home With The Word, Scott Hahn and Loyola Press, Sourcebook) our salvation.
A few receive abundantly from the landowner just as we receive from God more than what is merely justifiable or due. God, like the landowner, is radically just and abun-dantly generous. The workers who complain are made to look foolish as they lament the fact that landowner has made all workers equal. Indeed, what more could one ask for than to be treated as an equal at work or anywhere else? The biblical backdrop to Jesus’ parable is God is the landowner, the vineyard is the kingdom, workers hired at dawn are the Israelites, those hired later in the day are the Gentiles (non-Israelites). Like the Gentiles, many will be allowed to enter the kingdom late, after having spent most of their days idling in sin. But even these can call upon Him and find Him near. We should rejoice that God has com-passion on all whom He has created. This should console us, too, especially if we have loved ones who remain far from the vineyard. The Lord’s thoughts are so infinitely high, like the heavens, that we find our hope for mercy in the Lord. Some of us are baptized as babies and grow up in the Church. Some develop a relationship with Jesus Christ later as adults and are baptized in our communities accord-ing to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Still others live a Christian life in another denomination and then discern a call to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Whether you know it or not, you are mod-eling the Catholic Christian way of life for our RCIA folks. The most important thing you can do if pray for them and when you meet them at Mass welcome them and help them understand what is happening at Mass. If you have questions or would like to do more email Pat.
Calling ALL Lectors: Trained and interested in this ministry.
Fr. Jorge will be offering an important training
Saturday September 30th
at 7pm.
If you have ever thought you would like to join the ministry of proclaiming the readings to the people please attend this evening. St. John’s is in need of more people to stretch themselves for the Lord and move past their comfort zone for the Lord and serve at his Mass.
In the first part of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word, God speaks to his people through the Scriptures and in the homily; in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, God’s people respond by giving thanks and praise. God’s people should be “instructed by God’s word, and be nourished at the table of the Lord’s Body.” (Constitution on Sacred Liturgy)
“Here I am Lord. I have come because you called me. I offer myself and my time and my gifts to serve that call. Use me today for your glory and for the welfare of your people, through Jesus Christ. Amen”
Please pray to see if the role of Lector is the calling Jesus has for you. Come to the training on the 30
th of Sept. in the Church at 7pm led by
Fr. Jorge. Questions call the office.
Training for ALL Eucharistic Ministers will be Saturday, October 7
th at 7pm. Fr. Jorge will lead this training for all ministers who
are participating right now and those who are interested in joining this spir-itual team.
We are always in need of more ministers.
Your commitment to this ministry demonstrates your faith in the Resurrection, your belief in the real presence of Christ, and love for your parish community. “Here I am Lord. I have come because you called me. I offer myself and my time and my gifts to serve that call. Use me today for your glory and for the welfare of your people, through Jesus Christ. Amen.” Questions? Call the office.
Sacrament of Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the first Sunday of the Month directly following the 10 am Mass. One baptismal preparation class is required. The preparation class seeks to help parents understand the Rite of Baptism and to prepare and
support parents in the on-going faith formation of their child. Please call the parish office to schedule an appointment for the baptism class.

Let us find the courage to purify our hearts by removing the rocks and thorns which choke the Word of God.
