“Many are invited, but few are chosen.” Matthew seems enthralled by son stories this month. First we had the sons of yes and no. Then we witnessed the murder of the vineyard’s heir. Now we hear the story of the marriage feast of the king’s son. In each story, sons play different roles. The yes-and-no sons are actors. They stand in for us, free choosers invited to respond. The story of the heir is about Jesus. He brings word from his Father but it is rejected and he is killed. In the story of the feast, the son does not act or even appear. Yet it is his wedding that invites all the choices to be made and causes all the drama that follows. Son stories are always about the future. In ancient times, sons naturally inherited. What are we choosing now that is calling forward the future others will inherit? How do we bear future responsibilities for every yes and no we say today? What are the present day issues that will construct the future our children and grandchildren will have?

RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults We have had the 1st class, and we continue to meet on Thursday evenings at 6 pm. This program continues up until Easter, April 1, 2018. It is facilitated by parish staff and adult catechists. The topics include prayer, faith and stories of faith from the Scriptures, the sacraments and sacramentals, the commandments and our calling to the spiritual life, the Gospels. Our preparation for all of the sacraments follows this same pattern. This program is for adults, eighteen and over. The focus is on those wishing to be baptized or join the Catholic Church. Life-long Catholics are also invited to attend to update the teachings of our Faith.
World Mission Sunday October 22 We give from the fruits of our resources. We pray for the Missions that their work may bear fruit. Envelopes are available in the pews. Money collected is processed through the Parish and sent to the Archdiocese, then transferred to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, overseen by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Our prayers and gifts make for connections in the Body of Christ.
RICA Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos Hemos tenido la primera clase, y seguimos reuniéndonos los jueves por la noche a las 6 pm. Este programa continúa hasta la Pascua, el 1o de abril de 2018. Es facilitado por el personal de la parroquia y catequistas adultos. NO CLASSES on October 16 & 17.
All Catechists and Aides will meet in Reedy Hall on Monday, October 16 at 6:30 pm for our lesson planning/faith formation session. Please be on time and bring your Catechist Manual and calendar.
All classes will be Praying the Rosary. Grades 1-4 will get a Rosary to take home and place in their Sacred Space. Grades 5-8 will be making World Mission Rosaries.
If you did not pick up your child's First Reconciliation Book and Packet see Sheila in the Religious Education Office to get one. Books are $15.00 and only one book is needed per family. If you have the book with the purple lettering, see Sheila so she can give you the packet free of charge.

Vicariate Youth Fall Kick Off 2017 – Tonight, October 15, at 6:30 pm the Catholic churches in the area will join together for our annual kickoff for the year event! We will meet at St. Edward in Keizer for Mass, Adoration & dessert!
Confirmation Parent/Teen Session - Tuesday, October 17th ~ 7 pm ~ Reedy Hall. Our first Confirmation Session is for parents & teens. This is the first required session for those in their second year of Confirmation preparation. At least one parent must attend with their child.
High School Youth Night - THIS Wednesday, October 18th ~ 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
October Confirmation Session will be next Sunday, October 22nd, from 2:30 pm to 7 pm in Reedy Hall. See you there!
Youth Leadership Meeting – October 22nd from 7:30 pm to 9 pm.
Youth Ministry Parent Meeting – October 25th at 7 pm. We will discuss the up-coming events including the Retreat. At least one parent from each family is asked to be at the meeting.

Taizé Prayer This month the prayer service’s emphasis is “peace.” You are invited to pray for your needs and the needs of our troubled world at a Taizé Prayer Service held on October 15, at 7 pm in the Benedictine Sisters’ Monastery Chapel located at 840 S.
