Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, We appreciate the support of all of our school families that joined us last Saturday for the student-led conferences, the Grade 5/PYP Exhibition and the Grade 10 Personal Projects. I was particularly impressed by the Grade 5 and Grade 10 stu-dents who were confident and articulate in explaining their re-search and findings. The PYP exhibition and MYP Personal Proj-ects were outstanding. Secondary Student Art ExhibitionA cross-section of the Secondary Art Exhibition is on display at Mid Valley for the wider community to see. It is situated near Ise-tan on the ground floor of the Gardens Mall. If you are in the area, please call by to see the exhibition. MYP Verification VisitRepresentatives of the International Baccalaureate visited IGBIS earlier this week for the MYP Verification. While we will need to wait a few weeks to receive their written report, the exit meeting with the Visiting Team was very positive especially with regards to

the quality of the teaching and learning taking place in the school. Open DayThe school is holding an Open Day on Saturday 28th May. Please share this date with friends who are interested to find out more about the school. GraduationAll of our IGBIS Community are invited to the first Grade 12 Grad-uation Ceremony which is taking place from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Friday 27th May. The Valedictorian, Salutatorian and recipient of the Global Citizenship Award for International Understanding will be announced during the ceremony.

Mr. Lennox MeldrumSecondary School Principal ......................................................................................................

Last weekend’s Student Led Conferences was a fabulous celebration of the learning that takes place each day in our school. While families can always talk at home about what happened during a school day, and our range of software and websites allow parents a closer look at our classes, actually being present in a school setting and hearing your child explain their learning experiences is invaluable in understanding how they are developing within their subjects. We choose to focus this through the lens of the IB Learner Profile as it is evident in all that we do, along with our Approaches to Learning skills. It is always a fantastic day for our parents to be involved in the “Teach-it” activities as well as we know that students learn best when they have the opportunity to explain the processes involved. We hope that you enjoyed the morning and have taken the opportunity to provide feedback through the online survey to help us continue to improve events such as these. Congratulations to all students involved in the Student Led Conferences, to the students who presented their Science Fair projects, and especially to the Grade 10 students who proudly walked everyone through their amazing Personal Projects. I was trying to be everywhere and see it all as well and was happy and exhausted by the end!

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we were visited by representatives from the IB who were conducting the verification visit for our Middle Years Programme. This is the final stage of the process for us to be authorised and we await the response from the IB, which should be coming in the next few weeks. Feedback from the visitors was very positive and they were extremely impressed by how quickly our students and families had turned into true IB students and community members. We are very proud of the hard work put into this process over the past two years by

our amazing and experienced staff and a huge thank you must go to Phil Clark, our MYP Coordinator, for guiding the programme through to this momentous occasion. Well done, Phil, and thank you to everyone involved, especially our community members that came to speak with the team.

On Friday our Grade 12 students completed their final IB examinations - amazing work! We are so excited to see the results when they come out in July and will keep you informed of their continued successes. We hope you can join us in the IGBIS Theatre this Friday from 1.30pm onwards for our inaugural Grade 12 Graduation Ceremony.

IBDP News

Mr. Matthew MarshallDiploma Programme Coordinator ..................................................................

Congratulations to the Grade 12 students for completing their IBDP examinations and also completing the demanding and challenging two-year IBDP programme. The results from the IBDP exams and course work will be released on July 6th at 12:00GMT, and the Grade 12 students will be able to access their results online. Everyone at IGBIS wishes them all the best on their exam and course work results, and also in their future endeavours.

The Grade 11 Final Exams will take place from May 23 - 27 and constitute

50% of the Semester grade. The Grade 11 schedule during the exam week will be made up of exams and supervised study halls, and students will have time to review course content and prepare for their exams. The Semester One Exams were held in-class but the Final Exams will be held in the Secondary Library, and will be more formalised, in order to gradually prepare the students for the DP Exams in May of Grade 12.

The course choice selections and G10 - 11 Transition process is almost completed. This process has been ongoing for the past six months and there have been many counselling sessions to help the students make the most appropriate course and programme choices. A communication from the school regarding

final course and programme choices will be sent to parents in early June. The Grade 10 students will be taking part in a G10 - 11 Transition Week, where they spend a week in their Grade 11 courses in order to help prepare them for next academic year.

If there are any questions regarding the IBDP at IGBIS please email me at [email protected]

Secondary School Camps

Mr. Peter FowlesHead of Student Services ..................................................................

Dear Parents and Community,

Secondary school Camps for the 2016 -2017 academic year will be held in September from Tuesday the 20th to Friday the 23rd 2016. Students will report to school at the normal time on Tuesday being back at school on Friday the 23rd to connect with their buses to go home. Camps are designed to help students develop personally and socially and are an extension of the academic and service components of the IB programs. Camps establish a class and grade level identity

and provide students with a sense of belonging and well being. Our school camps are run with the following aims, to promote opportunities for congenial and collegial team building, to understand and implement service as action, in our host nation of Malaysia and to encourage challenges and experiences in a supportive environment.

All students are expected to attend the school camp. Camps support student learning and social and emotional well-being. The focus is on developing affective skills such as mindfulness, perseverance, self-motivation, and resilience. IGBIS will not be providing classes for students who do not attend and days absent will be

recorded against students not attending.

P rov ide rs for camps are Eco-field trips for grade 6 & 7, Outward Bound Malaysia for grades 8 & 9 and IGBIS staff will run an adventure styled camp on Pangkor Island for grades 10 and 11.

Final details including costs and locations will be available at a PVO meeting on Tuesday the 31st May 2016. Confirmation letters will be sent out the following week.
