Excellent locationBAU’s central location is one of itskey attractions. The university’s three

campuses, Beşiktaş and Galata andthe prep school campus, Şişli areset in the heart of Istanbul. Beşiktaş,the main campus, has a waterfrontlocation on the banks of theBosphorus and is easily accessibleby road or ferry. Free ferry transportis provided for students between

Beşiktaş and Galata.

Many of Istanbul’s most renowneddistricts are within easy reach of theuniversity: Taksim Square is a 10minute cab ride away from the

Beşiktaş campus, while a twominute walk will take you to thecolourful local shopping area.Artistic and chic Ortaköy, the ‘villagein the middle’, is 15 minutes on foot,where you can relax at one of itsriverside coffeehouses looking outon the Bosphorus. Istanbul is a cityof ancient histories; its famous oldquarter is an easy tram ride fromGalata where the Grand Bazaar, theBlue Mosque, Ayasofya and othersites of historic interest are located.

The University of Kent’s Canterburycampus, established in 1965, is inthe south-east of England, one houraway from London by train. Thehistoric city of Canterbury offers awide range of shops, cafés andrestaurants as well as historic sitesincluding the world famousCanterbury Cathedral.

Lecture Recordings. The Beşiktaşand Şişli campuses, where the IFPclasses will be conducted, areequipped with state-of-the-artfacilities which will assist studentswith their studies.

If you need to extend yourexisting qualifications,study skills or ability inEnglish for direct entry toan undergraduate degreeat a UK university, whynot apply for the one-yearInternational FoundationProgramme at BAU?

The IFP at BAU focuses specificallyon Business and Business-relatedmodules and has been speciallydesigned to prepare you foracademic study on a variety of Kentundergraduate degree programmesin the social sciences. However, ifyour interests lie elsewhere, it ispossible for you to progress to otherdegree programmes.

On successful completion of the IFP(and through meeting theUniversity’s rules of progressionand English languagerequirements), you are guaranteedentry on to a full undergraduatedegree at the University of Kent.In order to progress to Accounting& Finance, Business Administration,Business & Management andInternational Business studentsmust achieve 60% overall average;to progress to Economics studentsmust achieve 65% overall averagewith 65% in Economics and Maths &Statistics.

EconomicsThe Economics module will dealwith alternative solutions to theproblem of resource allocationleading to consideration of theoperation of the market mechanism;how the decisions and actions ofeconomic agents are co-ordinated.Economic systems will be evaluatedincluding treatment ofcircumstances in which markets areconsidered to fail.

Mathematics and StatisticsThrough the Mathematics andStatistics module, you will developyour analytical and problem-solvingskills to successfully complete otherrelated modules on the IFP. Theprogramme of study will be dividedinto lectures and seminars oncalculus, algebra and statistics.

English and Academic Skills Your Academic Skills Developmentclasses differ from ‘Englishlanguage’ classes as you will beworking to develop skills to fullybenefit from your academicexperience in Istanbul and yourundergraduate degree programmein the UK. These include, forexample, developing your sense ofresponsibility in seminar / groupwork and as an independentstudent, improving your skills in timemanagement, project managementand individual responsibility towardslearning, and developing youranalytical and critical skills.

Teaching and assessmentThe IFP is managed by theUniversity of Kent and delivered byBAU. Teaching is organised in smallgroups and includes lectures,seminars, tutorials, workshops, ITtraining and independent learning.Assessment will be through acombination of exams andcoursework.

FeesTuition fee for the IFP at BAU in2014/15 are £8,000. Tuition feepayment can either be in full or intwo instalments, one beforeregistration and one in January.

DiscountStudents who successfully completethe IFP at Kent and meet theprogression requirements for theirdegree programme will be entitledto a 10% discount on their firstyear’s fees.

Prizes and ScholarshipsA series of prizes and partialscholarships (payable towardsfuture academic programme tuitionfees) are awarded to students whohave achieved highly whilstcompleting the University of KentInternational FoundationProgramme. These awards aregiven to students when theyprogress onto their undergraduatedegree at Kent.

• courses taught in central Istanbul• a University of Kent Student IDCard and IT Login, giving youaccess to Kent’s extensive onlineresources and facilities

• a link to the University of Kent,with Kent staff visits and ongoingsupport through interaction withstaff, joint workshops with Kentstudents, and recorded lecturesused by Kent students.

What will I study?The IFP is a modular course taughtover three terms, starting inSeptember. All students take threesubject modules and two modulesin English and Academic Skills

Business ManagementThe Business Management moduleseeks to provide a comprehensiveand intuitive understanding of theworld of business, and its place inthe wider society in which itoperates. The module is divided intofour principal stages; a review of thebusiness environment, an appraisalof the function of marketing, anexploration of the financial aspectsof corporate performance and ananalysis of the management ofhuman resources.

Entry requirementsTo gain entry on to the IFPprogramme, you need the following:• a good academic school-leavingcertificate with particularstrengths in subjects that arerelevant to your intended area ofstudy. Entry from a Turkish highschool would typically be a GPAof 3.0 out of 5.0 (equivalent to70% or higher).

• 5.0 IELTS, with no less than 5.0 ineach band (or PTE 43 overall) orequivalent.
