The LETTER should tell us things like... What problem does the invention solve? Why do they think it is a problem? Who or what benefits from the invention?

It should also tell us a few things about the inventors themselves and the engineers they interviewed, in a letter of no more than one side of A4.

By interviewing engineers, annotating their designs and writing the letter pupils are provided with the opportunity to explore:

Creative and independent thought Factual subject knowledge Annotating drawings and diagrams

Tell us why you think ENGINEERS should build your design!REGISTER NOW! Deadline date for entries: March 27th 2019

Questioning, speaking and listening skills Composition Writing for a purpose and an audience Extending and using appropriate vocabulary Use of persuasive language

By engaging with the competition there are opportunities to extend the pupils understanding of STEM careers and their place in modern life, meet and interview professionals about their careers increasing both ‘cultural capital’ and ‘science capital’.

In 2018/19 there will be a programme of WebEx interviews with fascinating engineers from a wide range of disciplines which registered schools can join. Register your interest at [email protected]
