STARTER; Write a heading for the picture- imagine it was in a newspaperNO more than 5 wordshttp://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Polar-Bears-6164669/
So what’s the problem? WHAT?
WHY?
Why do the polar bears care?
But they CAN swim?
Polar bears are excellent swimmers - their Latin name means ‘sea bear’. They can comfortably swim at around 6mph, using their front paws like oars while their hind legs are held flat like a rudder
So what’s the problem?
Climate change is pulling the sea ice out from under polar
bears’ feet
They can’t swim forever- longer distances between the ice means greater risk of drowning, especially for cubs
The ice melting means that the bears have less time and habitat to hunt- they need the ice to hunt sealsBBC Nature - Polar bear videos, news and facts
Imagine YOU are the polar bear
