Bradley Hibben Radio Engineer 1 DOT Radio Operations Center Office of Statewide Radio Communications 651-234-7892 [email protected] Statewide Emergency Communications Board Operations and Technical Committee February 1, 2017 Re: ARMER System Subscriber Radio Testing Testing of the following radio for use on the ARMER System was completed January 25, 2017, using the “Subscriber Unit Test Procedure” dated March 2010: Kenwood TK-5430 Portable, S/N B5C00134 The testing was performed by the following individuals: Thomas Bredemus, MnDot Bradley Hibben, MnDot Thomas Kaisler, MnDot The radio passed all the required tests for use on the ARMER Network. Non-required tests the radio failed:
1) 6A, Test Results page 6, “Emergency Alarm/Call with Tactical Operation”. Note, tactical operation is not allowed on the ARMER system.
2) 4A, Test Results page 6, “Subscriber to Landline Telephone Interconnect” 3) 4B, Test Results page 8, “Subscriber to Landline Telephone Interconnect, Over-dial Mode” 4) 5, Test Results Page 8, “Call Alert” 5) 6, Test Results Page 8, “Private Call” 6) 2, Test Results Page 11, “Radio Operates in Failsoft”
Notes:
1) 5, Test Results Page 9 “Site Preference and Roaming”. To get this function to work correctly with a “Site Preference” table, the “Good RSSI” level and the “Level 2 Margin” settings require adjustment and multiple operational tests to establish correct settings.
2) 9, Test Results Page 8 “Direct Talk Around in Digital Encrypted Mode”. While this function operated correctly on a conventional digital channel with encryption. Inadvertently having the encryption set to “On” on a conventional channel which is not programmed for encryption will “Scramble” the audio with a proprietary Kenwood scheme. The user must set the encryption setting to off to send or receive audio on a “Non” encrypted conventional channel if any conventional channels are set up for encryption.
