Youth employment in the Country areas is why I am writing this subm ission in regards to Victorian 17 year olds being able to get there P's.

We live at Naringal East and I find it very frustrating that in Queensland, NSW, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Austra lia, and Territory's you can get your P's at the age of 17 years or earlier. But because we live in Victoria our Teens are extremely disadvantaged, just because of our post code.

Why are our teens in Victoria being denied this opportunity?

As country residents, I fee l that teens at the age of 17 are strongly disadvantaged when it comes to do apprenticeships, schooling or to go to work.

The 17 years olds that live in towns and Cities have public transport so they are independent to get to work or schooling and those that are 17 years of age that live in the rural areas have NO WAY (NO public Transport) to get to their work, as working parents we can't afford the time OR money to travellOO's of extra KM a week to get them to and from work. But know what, we have to it for the Kids, but many families can't do the travelling as it is financially and time draining for them. Many teens do not fit into the secondary school curriculum and need to leave school to do apprenticeships, work or Tafe schooling.

So by allowing Victoria's 17 year olds to get there p's, like in all the other states, it wou ld lift a huge financial burden of many, many country families.

I thought Victoria wanted more young people into Apprenticeships and to lower unemployment?

If that's is the case, I feel if teens can drive at 17, you wou ld get many more teens taking up apprenticeships and jobs, why Because they can be independent to get to and from work so it won't be so hard on parents. Then I believe the unemployment would also drop. It is impossible to have public transport in the country to cover all areas and times for work and school, so by lowering the driving age to 17 would be a huge advantage to all.

It wou ld also brake up when they can drive and drink alcohol, this 12 months gap I believe wou ld help them to become responsib le on the road before they are allowed to drinking alcohol. Good idea don't you think?

Wake up Victoria and get with the rest of our Nation to help our Teens with employment. independences and education.

I understand that some organizations and people think it's a bad idea to let 17 year olds drive on their own because they say the road toll would go up, what make them think this?

As I believe if someone is going to be rad ical or unsafe on the road no matter what training and experience they have they will be, whether it be at age at 17, 19, 20, 30, 44, 50 or eve n older, but not everyone falls into this category. Many, many, Victorian drivers are safe drivers. How many people in Victoria hold a driver's license? compared to the road toll.

Take a look at the 5 year road toll average from the TAC as of 25/4/2016 Road Toll is 87

3 were Bicyclist 15 were Motorcyclist 19 were passengers 12 were pedestrians

and 37 are Car Drivers

Age brackets

• 7 are 18 - 20 year old

• 10 are 21-25 year olds

• 7 are 26-29 year olds

• 11 are 30-39 year olds

• 11 are 40-49 year olds

• 9 are 50 -59 year olds

• 12 are 60-69 year olds

• 15 are over 70

Looking at t his I believe we should be targeting over 60 year olds NOT stopping 17 year olds from beginning their careers and making life easy for rural families to help them support their teens. It's extremely unfortunate when there is an accident, but sometimes that is just what they are, acc idents, you can't just say th ere will be more accidents from 17 year olds driving, look above. Every acc ident needs to be look at individua lly, was it speed, alcohol, lack of sleep, drugs or just lack of

considerat ion ?

I very strongly believe that Victorian 17 year olds shou ld NOT be pre judge, because of what others have done in the past to cause accidents, BUT given the opportunity to pursue their work or schooling to be independent!!!!! !

I highly recommend that you cons ider thi s option for 17 year olds please.
