The current student success vision is to provide students with a clear pathway to success and to tailor support services for eachstudent. Our vision is that all incoming students will receive counseling, orientation, and assessment. 1. Integrated planning: The College has a variety of planning documents and student success plans which can lead to duplication ofplanning and utilization of resources and lack of coordination of efforts towards student success. The Integrated Planning Committee(IPC) has recently been established to streamline the use of resources and to improve the efficiency of the day-to-day and long-termplanning and operational functioning of the College. It is anticipated that this upgrade will provide more information totrack student progress and to reach out to students to help them stay on course to complete their educational goals. The new SIS ismore user-friendly for students, faculty, and staff, and it has enhanced functionality that will aid in enrollment management.

The College also uses local data from its student information system to measure progress on the performance metrics associatedwith its Strategic Master Plan goals and objectives. Local data are also used in program review, in the College’s Student Equity Plan,and the evaluation of the College’s performance on the measures in its institution-set standards for student achievement (coursesuccess, persistence, retention, degree and certificate completion, and transfer to four-year colleges/universities) as required by itsaccrediting agency (the ACCJC). The institution-set standards are levels of performance set by the institution to meet educational andinstitutional effectiveness expectations and serve as benchmarks for the college to assess its levels of achievement. The Los AngelesCommunity College District Office also provides data about the College’s performance on District Strategic Plan metrics and tracksthe number of students receiving the mandated Student Success and Support Program services of assessment, orientation, andcounseling.

1. College Strategic Plan Goal #2: Strengthen institutional effectiveness through a culture of evidence-based decision-making, planningand resource allocation, process assessment, and activities that promote professional development and collegiality. The Office of InstitutionalEffectiveness has hired an additional assistant research analyst to aid in the collection and analysis of data. The College has utilized technology to support students by setting up an account with NetTutor to provide on-line tutoring for all students 24/7. The College has a Student Equity Plan that includes action plans to close identified achievement gaps in access and student successindicators of course completion, ESL and basic skills completion, degree and certificate completion, and transfer. Summer Bridge(SB) into First Year Experience (FYE) (METAS) Summer Bridge/ First Year Experience Advisory Committee was established tosupport the implementation of this high impact practice designed to help first generation students transition into college and supporttheir progress into college level courses. The first cohort began in Summer 2015. This program has now evolved into the Mission’sExcellence Towards Advancement of Students (METAS) which is funded by a Title V grant and is an eight-week Summer Bridge thatleads into a specialized FYE program. METAS is scaling up what was previously started. The program is now serving 80 studentsand target numbers are expected to double each year. A new Veteran's Coordinator was hired and a Veteran's Resource Center hasbeen set up to provide veteran students with counseling, advising, tutoring and financial aid information, specifically directed to theneeds of Veterans. NetTutor was set up to provide access to tutoring for distance education students, but it is also available for allstudents 24/7. Community outreach programs including Spanish videos entitled "Novelas Educativas" that focus on the importance ofcommunity college for both students and their parents.

The English Acceleration pathway that began in 2012 continues to produce good results. It started out as English 28 and 101 taughtsimultaneously in one semester. It expanded to English 21 & 28 for one year, but due to staffing and low enrollment, it continued backto just 28 & 101. This year the structure was changed to 8 weeks of English 28 and 8 weeks of 101 in one semester, which is easier tomanage for class registration. The purpose of this accelerated pathway is to get students into college level English sooner. Mathoffers many pathways including a 1. Math 137 to 227: In 2013, the math department developed a new non-STEM major pathway ofpre-statistics class that leads into college level statistics, allowing non-STEM majors to avoid the traditional intermediate algebrapathway. 2. Math 129A/B to replace Math 112, 115 & 125: In 2013, the math department introduced an accelerated pathway whichcondensed a three-semester sequence into two semesters to shorten the trajectory of students through the curriculum and minimizeexit points. Classes are taught at the same time, by the same instructor, with the same book each semester. 3. Math 110: In 2015, themath department created an accelerated class Math 110 which combines Math 105 and 112 into one semester. ESL Noncredit toCredit pathways: A committee has been formed to explore setting up a clear pathway for ESL students in non-credit ESL to bridgeinto credit ESL. Students in the highest level non-credit ESL were given the assessment test and most placed into credit ESL 4 or 5.Eagles Nest: In 2013, a professional learning hub was established in a classroom in the Learning Center to provide a place forprofessional learning activities for faculty. NetTutor: In 2015, a contract with NetTutor was established which provides 24/7 access totutoring for all students on campus and distance education students.

Strategic Plan Goal #6: Increase community engagement and expand business, community and civic partnerships. AB 104: AdultEducation Block Grant (AEBG) Los Angeles Community College District is part of a consortium working together with four local K-12school district adult schools to partner with them in the delivery of continuing, non-credit and CTE education. Within the consortium,Los Angeles Mission College is working with LAUSD North Valley Occupational Center and the Burbank Adult School. ESLNoncredit to Credit pathways: A committee has been formed with the Credit and Non Credit ESL departments to explore setting up aclear pathway for ESL students in non-credit ESL to bridge into credit ESL. Annual Fall Kickoff (FKO): In an effort to incorporate theRP Group's research on student success and the defined “Six Success Factors,” a welcome day was developed in collaboration withStudent Services, Academic Affairs, Administrative Services and ASO. The Fall Kickoff produces well informed, connected andprepared students who persist (Fall to Fall) successfully with a GPA of at least a 2.0 or higher. The FKO also promotes increasedcollaboration across campus to help reduce the silo effect. In 2015, we focused on new students and what they need to succeed intheir first week of classes. This year we hope to increase the number of new students who attend the Fall Kickoff by handing out flyersat High School Senior day in the spring to get the word out. Student Success Agenda: To aid in communicating to the entire campusabout our AtD initiatives and student success outcomes, a bi-annual newsletter is sent to all faculty, staff and students detailing theAtD initiatives on our campus and highlighting the data supporting the effectiveness of these interventions. Pre-Assessment Preparation Video: In 2012, a short seven-minute video wasmade depicting two students entering college for the first time. The video juxtaposes these two students as one who prepares for theassessment, attends orientation and meets with a counselor, and one who does not prepare and the consequences of not preparing.The video highlights the importance of Assessment, Orientation and Counseling (AOC) in an engaging video format. English Pre-Assessment Videos: In 2012, two videos were developed in order to help students assess into the correct English classes so that theycan progress through the sequence as quickly as possible. The first is a 10-minute video that explains the importance of theassessment test and the structure of the test, and the second is a 20-minute video reviewing key grammar points to prepare them forthe content of the assessment test. If students are better prepared for the English Assessment, they may place in a higher level ofEnglish and thereby get through the English pathway quicker. Math Pre-Assessment Prep: In 2014, Online Remediation for Math wasput in place. Students take a practice placement test online. It is scored immediately indicating the topics of deficiency along with asuggested set of problems to study. Students are directed to login to “Interact Math,” a free access Pearson product with guidedtutorials. If students are better prepared for the Math Assessment, they may place in a higher level of math and thereby get throughthe math pathway quicker. The EOPS Pilot Program began in 2013 to provide follow-up counseling services to exited EOPS/CAREstudents. These students are referred to General Counseling to help them complete a student educational plan (SEP) to help themaccomplish their academic goals. The College’s Student Equity Plan identifies barriers to student access and success fordisproportionately impacted groups and outlines how funds will be spent on activities and interventions to remove these barriers andclose the identified gaps.
