8/18/2019 IELTS Task 2 Essay
1/1
Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that this
money could be better spent elsewhere.
To what extent do you agree with this view?
Art whether in the form of music, theatre, painting, poetry or sculpture has been a
part of the human race for centuries. Nowadays, the contemporary focus of the
society is on science and technology, that is why some think that art must be on the
bottom of the governments priorities.
News tells that some public schools are cutting back on art classes to lessen their
expenses. A lot of artists who possess a lot of potential do not get the government
support that they deserve, hence inhibiting their path to success and to become
well!known on something they are passionate about. The world tends to produce
less talented people who cannot match the prowess of Shakespeare, "dgar Allan
#oe, $udwig %an &eethoven and hundreds of prominent artists way back '())s to
'*))s.
+ certainly disagree on the thought that the government is wasting money on
propagating art. +t serves as a creative outlet for people. A lot of studies reveal thatstudents who are deprived of art classes have higher dropout rates, low discipline
and have troubles mastering core subects. Art can sometimes be the only medium
for other people to express their deepest thoughts, desires and emotions. +t has the
power to inspire, motivate and educate people. The government should take in to
consideration the numerous studies conducted by professionals about the
importance of art in the society. -e might not be experiencing the detrimental
eects of inhibiting art now, but if the society continues to deprive the support for
artists and the many forms of art, who knows what the human race will become.
