Welcome Message

The 1 st IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics - Berlin (ICCE-Berlin 2011) took place on September 6 - 8 in Berlin, Germany. The ICCE-Berlin is a new sister conference of the annual IEEE Consumer Electronics Society's flagship Conference ICCE in Las Vegas conjoined with the CES Consumer Electronics Show. The ICCEBerlin 2011 was held the first time in Berlin in the International Congress Center ICC supported by the IF A, the leading trade show for Consumer Electronics and Home

Appliances. The goal of this conference was to bring together researchers and engineers from industry, research centres, and academia to exchange information and results of recent work on systems, circuits, technologies, processes, and applications. ICCE-Berlin 2011 provided an excellent forum for the researchers, system developers, and service providers to share their ideas, designs and experiences. International specialists from science and practice presented technical options as well as freshly grown results of their research labs.

We were happy to receive about 180 submissions from 32 countries world-wide. All articles have been reviewed by at least three referees. Finally, after thorough discussion 87 papers were selected as full papers and 13 for poster presentation, all of which are published in these proceedings. The papers presented here cover in particular the topics of Audio and Video Technology, Video Coding, Consumer Networks, Wellness, Health Care and AAL, as well as Car Electronics, User-Centered Design, Green Consumer Electronics, and RF & Wirless.

The comprehensive program was due to the invaluable contributions of the authors and the suggestions of the ICCE-Berlin 2011 TPC members and external reviewers. We are deeply grateful to all of them. We gratefully acknowledge the help of the international advisors. A special thanks to our sponsors as well as the cooperating societies for supporting ICCE-Berlin 2011.

Last but not least, we would like thank the keynote speakers who shared their insights into special topics. This unique knowledge pool provided developers and decisionmakers with future ideas and potentials.

Horst Schwetlick (General Chair) & Thomas C. Schmidt (TPC Chair)
