Card News 1-1
GDP growth at the 6% level, solid economic fundamentals, entry into a long-term growth phase, active foreign direct investment (FDI)…
Which country comes to your mind?
The answer is “Vietnam”.
The country is also called the “growth country,” “post-China,” & “Asia’s young tiger
Fervor for investment in Vietnam All attention on the IPO market!
The “non-taxable overseas equity funds” were a tailwind for Vietnam in 2017. Vietnam raced for the 1st and 2nd ranking, competing against strong rivals including China and India, and Vietnamese funds posted annual returns of over 35%.
The Strengths of Vietnam (1)
Vietnam posted GDP growth of 6.8% last year, the highest rate witnessed in a decade. This growth is remarkable given that the world GDP growth was only 3.6% during the same period
The Strengths of Vietnam (2)
Vietnam continues to enjoy foreign capital inflows after aggressively attracting FDI by implementing deregulation across the board. In terms of FDI, Korea ranks second in Asia next to Japan.
The Strengths of Vietnam (3)
The largest strength of Vietnam comes from its population. Working age population (those aged from 15 to 64) accounts for more than 70% of the total population, and their wages are cheaper compared to other ASEAN member countries.
The Strengths of Vietnam (4)
Vietnam’s economic growth is propped up by the real estate sector and the consumer goods sector. The real estate sector is enjoying larger sales on the back of urbanization, while the consumer goods sector is seeing more purchases thanks to the increasing middle income bracket
There is more.
As Vietnam’s economy has already displayed steep growth, there are doubts about the possibility of further growth. However, there is a new factor that will dispel such doubts – IPO of public companies
Last year, Vietnam announced IPO plans for 137 public companies and blue chip large caps. In line with this plan, it will expand its IPO market to the 20~30bn$ level within the next 1~2 years.
The Vietnamese government prefers to attract foreign investment through privatization in order to improve the financial health of public companies, which explains why they are actively pushing forward privatization of public companies
It has become easier for foreigners to participate in the IPO process thanks to eased investment caps on foreigners.
The foreign investment ceiling set at 49% (30% for banks) can be lifted after each industry undergoes a reviewing process.
The government policy of promoting trading of public company stocks utilizing the UPCoM market, the market for trading unlisted
company shares, should also work positively for the market.
Successful examples of public company privatization
• Dairy product manufacturer and distributor Vinamilk: double-digit growth over the past five years • “Saigon Beer” maker Sabeco: Market cap that far surpasses its IPO price • No. 2 Vietnamese airline player VietJet Air: Displaying strong potential as Vietnam’s first private airline company
Curious about Vietnam’s potential? Place interest in its IPO market! You will get to witness a series of IPO activities of public companies and blue chip large caps.
The soaring popularity of Vietnam was evidenced by the more than 75M$ of investments that poured into a Vietnamese IPO fund sold by
a Korean asset manager over the past two weeks.
