iDVD ’08: Creating a Slideshow Summary Using the slideshow editor in iDVD, you can create slideshows from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server. You can also include movies in your slideshow. Follow these steps to create a slideshow in iDVD using your iPhoto library: 1. Open iDVD (if it is not on your dock, it is in your applications folder) and choose a theme from the theme pop-up menu. In this example, 7.0 Themes is chosen from the pop-up menu (1) and the Cinema theme is selected (2), but you can choose any theme you want to use. 2. Click the Add button "+" at the lower-left of the iDVD window and choose Add Slideshow. 3. The default title, Cinema Main, and the default button, My Slideshow, appears in the center of the iDVD window. 4. Double-click on the default title. The title will highlight blue and a font, style, and size menu will appear. Delete the default title and change your font, style, and size (if wanted) and type your own title for your slideshow.

5. Every theme has a drop zone that allows you to add a picture to your theme. Click on the Photos tab on the right of the iDVD window. Click on the album that contains the pictures for your slideshow. Choose one picture to fill the drop zone of your theme. Click, hold and drag the photo to your drop zone. The picture will fill the area and become a part of your theme. 6. Double-click the My Slideshow button to open the slideshow editor. 7. In the Slideshow Editor, click Media in the lower right of the window. 8. To add images, click, hold, and drag individual photos, folders, or albums from the Photos pane (or from elsewhere on your hard disk or a connected server) to the slideshow editor.

9. To reorder images or movies, select the ones you want to move and drag them to a different position. To delete an image or movie, select it and press the delete key. Note: If you add a photo album and do not reorder the images, the slideshow displays your photos in the order they are organized in the photo album. 10. Click the Settings button. 11. Select the settings you want for the slideshow and then click OK. These are your slideshow setting options: • "Loop slideshow" makes the slideshow repeat continuously until the viewer moves to a different part of the DVD. • "Display navigation arrows" shows navigation arrows on the screen. It’s most helpful to display arrows when you set the slideshow to progress manually, which means the viewer controls movement from slide to slide. These arrows are simply a visual cue; the viewer must use the remote control to advance the slideshow. • "Add image files to DVD-ROM" adds copies of the photos and movies to the DVD so viewers can download them to their computers. • "Show titles and comments" lets you add titles/comments to the photos/movies that are visible in the slideshow. • "Duck audio while playing movies" lowers the volume of the slideshow soundtrack while the movie in your slideshow—and its associated audio—plays. 12. Choose a transition from the Transition pop-up menu (bottom left of the window) to move smoothly from one image to the next. Only one transition can be applied to a slideshow. 13. Choose the length of time you want each slide to stay on the screen from the Slide Duration pop-up menu. The duration you select applies to all slides in the slideshow. To let the viewer advance through the slideshow manually using a remote control, choose Manual. Note: If you want to add a soundtrack to your slideshow, you don’t need to set the slide duration.

14. To add a song or playlist to your slideshow, first click the Media button. Now click the Audio tab and select the song(s) or playlist you want to use with your slideshow. 15. Drag a playlist or a song from the Audio pane to the audio well in the slideshow editor. Note: If you are adding more than one song to your slideshow, hold down the apple key as you click on the songs that you want to add. They will turn blue as you select them. Once you have selected all your songs, click, hold, and drag them to the audio well. (If you choose 3 songs, you should see a red circle with a 3 in it and you drag them to the audio well. If you choose 2 songs, you would see a 2 and so on.) 16. Set the Slideshow volume. You can click the Preview button to play your slideshow and listen to the volume level. The slide duration is automatically set to “Fit to Audio” so that the slideshow and soundtrack finish at the same time. If you want to change how long each slide stays onscreen, choose the number of seconds from the Slide Duration pop-up menu. When you do this, the slideshow and music may not end at the same time, so it’s important to preview the slideshow to make sure you like it. 16. Click Return to exit the slideshow editor. 17. To preview your completed slide show, click the Preview button. 18. After you are done previewing, you can click “exit" in the DVD controller to return to the main screen. 19. If you need to make any changes to your slideshow, double-click the My Slideshow button to return to the slide show editor and make your changes.
