The performance Idiotul at the National Theatre of Cluj is the result of a meeting - a meeting between a group of actors, fruit of a great theatrical tradition, and a director in search of her own theatre. The ground for this encounter between two worlds so apparently distant from each other was The Idiot by F. M. Dostoevsky. Together we have searched for a way to tell such a complex story with the language of theatre, looking for music, songs, actions, images, and words which could guide us towards an understanding of what the Idiot could be for us, and how we could share it with the spectators. Step for step, the dramaturgy suggested to the actors how to reach their characters, as the work of the actors in its turn suggested and influenced how to shape the dramaturgy. The work on the words together with Ștefana Pop-Curșeu and that on the space with Adrian Damian completed the long journey of the performance towards the spectator, which these pages are a mute testimony of. Anna Stigsgaard

A performance has value if it leaves you in a state of grace. The Idiot left me with the same feelings which other really significant performances have left me with: I was the witness of a unique moment, (...) a performance-event in which the realistic theatre coexists with expres-sionist or symbolist moments, in which the sound-environment amplifies the impact of the visual message. (...) We can only recommend, with full confidence, this performance to all for whom quality has remained an essential attribute. Horatiu Damian, Ager Kult

The image never lasts more than a second, but it suspends time into an eternity. It is that which is called grace, and which can sometimes be obtained through theatre. The living the-atre of Anna Stigsgaard flows organically. (...) There is a continuous internal ferment, a certain subterranean throbbing of an entire universe on the stage (...). The Idiot represents an alive theatre of continuous research and perfection, the creative act par excellence. Paul Boca, Art Act Magazine, No. 168
