DRESSING ROOMS AND COSTUME

The theatre will provide the company with the following:

• rehearsal space for both warm-up and rehearsal. This could be on stage or in the case this wouldn’t be available in a separate studio • a sufficient number of dressing rooms with hot water (if no shower or sink are available, hot water will be provided in a bucket) • a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out of the travel bags at the end of the performance • 2 x ice packs for use after the performance • For the preparation of the costumes:

• an iron and ironing board with a clean cover • a costume rail with space to hang 30 wardrobe hangers (hangers will be provided by the company)

In case of multiple performances in the same venue, we require an easy access to a washing machine and tumble dryer and laundry liquid available to use on the premises.

* If the venue does not have such facilities, the venue should then cover the expenses of laundering the costume outside the premises; at the nearest Laundromats and/or dry cleaner.

** If the show is scheduled on a weekend and/or national holiday, the venue must seek special arrangements with the Laundromats/dry cleaners to be insured the costumes can be laundered as required and this prior to the arrival of the company

SET The piece is performed around 3 large cloths (toured with company & fire proofed), which are hung from the lighting grid in the up stage half of the stage (See Fig.1). Cloths are tied on and require serge drapes supplied by the venue to be hung directly behind to give solidity and prevent light bleed. Size of serge drapes should be arranged with set designer prior and will depend on the size of the laid stage floor. A minimum of 6 stage weights or sand bags are needed. To achieve the positioning of the cloths it might be required to rig specific bars for this purpose. The maximum rigging height of the cloths is 5.75m and should the grid be higher it will be necessary to rig lower bars or fly in bars if possible. Rigging of extra bars should be done prior to the arrival of the company and according to preliminary agreements with the designer. The stage is a laid white dance floor that covers the whole space. A CLEAN WHITE DANCE FLOOR WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE VENUE. Any alternative arrangements should be discussed with the company. The piece is performed without side masking and all side masking should be removed prior to the arrival of the company. See further notes on the set of Idiot-Syncrasy and the rigging of it in Appendix 1.

LIGHTING The show will be run from the in house lighting desk.

37 Channels and 26 Cues in total.

Where possible, if the venue can pre-rig any equipment this is desired. Please make contact beforehand if this will involved any further costs. Please see LX Plan below (Fig.2). This plan is intended as an ideal and will be changed/reduced if the venue’s equipment/time requires it.

Equipment List:

• 21 x 1Kw Fresnel/PC

• 6 x 2Kw Fresnel/PC

• 6 x 50º Profiles with complete fully-functional shutters

• 4 x 1kw cyclorama floods

SOUND The sound must evenly cover the space on the audience side. !The speakers must be free from buzzing, hissing or other noises. It is very important that the equipment is suitable to play clean low frequency sounds at the right volume, so that the viewer may physically feel the sound. Sound is played via QLab on two Macbook Pro toured with the company. The sound is taken straight from the mini jack port and into the venue’s sound system. We use two computers in order to send the low frequency tracks only to the subwoofer and the high frequency ones to the FOH. The soundtrack itself is very bass and is played at a high volume.

The organizer must provide the following technical equipment: • mixer & effects: analog or digital soundboard (Midas/Soundcraft/Yamaha), at least 6 channels & 1 small table for the computer • FOH/amps speakers: Right/Left • subwoofer: 1 or 2 subwoofers (depending on the space). Preferably, 18" subwoofers with a maximum range of 60Hz. Such piece of

equipment is essential for the correct reproduction of the sound as the soundtrack of the piece mainly consists of low frequencies. • Speakers and subwoofer(s) should be isolated from each other in separate channels. • speakers on stage: Right/Left • shotgun mic: if possible, to be installed at bar level (only in big auditoriums with poor acoustic) • cables: all cables needed to connect all of the above mentioned equipment.

* Any technical alternative must be agreed upon with company.

MISCELANEA ALCOHOL At a certain point approximately 20 mins into the performance the performers bring a glass bottle of whiskey on stage and drink a measure together from plastic shot glasses. They then offer the bottle and glasses to some audience members before bringing out enough plastic glasses and whiskey to give the whole audience a single measure of whiskey. Usually the theatre ushers then collect the glasses and bottles and the show continues. This section usually takes around 10mins. If there are any questions or concerns about this section of the show please let us know ASAP so we can discuss it in more detail. When possible alcohol should be sourced by the venue. Please get in touch with Igor and Moreno for details. LOUD SOUND The sound in Idiot-Syncrasy passes though three phases. It starts and ends in near silence with just a discreet tone playing in the background. The middle section of the piece which lasts for around 20 minutes builds to a very loud section of base-heavy sound. In this section there is only base and no other sound frequency meaning the noise can be felt as a vibration of the body as much as it can be heard. We generally tend to push the sound as loud as we can without risking damaging the sound system of the venue we are in. The vibration will often cause loose surfaces in the theatre to vibrate and rattle (eg. air ventilation ducts). The noise loud base is not at all damaging to peoples hearing as the frequencies which can cause harm are higher. DANCE FLOOR Due to the nature of the choreography and for the safety of the performers, an even sprung floor is essential. Idiot-Syncrasy is performed in a white dance floor as part of the design; a clean white dance floor is to be provided by venue.

There is no smoke/pyro or bright flashing lighting in the performance.

-Units 25-27 where possible

should be hung on a bar below the

normal grid hieght (by about 0.3m)

to aid lighting of the white drapes.

If possible, the drapes could also be

hung in this way.

APPENDIX 1: NOTES ON THE IDIOT SYNCRASY SET Notes by designer Kasper Hansen. For further enquiries or any doubts please get in touch with the company

• 3 staggered tyvek cloths tied onto black rigging bars at 5.75m above ground level. Nb. In the case of a raked floor the bars should all be hung in level with first bar where cloth a hangs (thereby reducing the distance to the floor on cloth b and c to less than 5.75m. This distance will depend on how steep the rake is). Nb. For cloths to be rigged well the bars should be flown in so tyeing happens at floor level.

• Tyvek is backed with inhouse black serge (or equivavlent) leaving a 10cm clearance from stage left edge of tyvek to avoid it being seen. Please make sure in advance that there are suitabe blackout cloths to do this. Refer to plan for measurements.

• Tyvek should be creased from twisting while packed (see picture) and with slight sag/bulge at base when hung. Excess length is left behind cloth with the onstage corner folded back on it-self and weighted (see picture). This is to remove it from the audience’s view. All cloths are wighted with min 3 stage weights but should not be under tension.

• Tyvek should be tied carefully to the black rigging bars from the onstage edge towards the offstage edge. Carefull attention must be paid to reduce the amount of unwanted folds in the cloths. The blacks are tied afterwards without creating extra folds in the tyvek. Nb. Should there be excess width of the tyvek cloth it is folded back and tied onto the bar at the upstage side of the back out material (see picture).
