CLOVER HILL VINEYARD LEBRINA TASMANIA AUSTRALIA cloverhillwines cloverhillwinestas • 60 CLOVER HILL ROAD 7254 • IDIOM ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2016 REGION: COAL RIVER & PIPERS RIVER VARIETY: 100% P INOT N OIR Idiom wines are a boutique production of small parcels of fruit sourced solely from our Estate vineyards. Crafted with traditional techniques, the wines reflect the regionality, the growing season and winemaking techniques. Utilising somewhat forgotten old world techniques with the pristine new world fruit, Idiom Estate Pinot Noir is an amalgamation of the best of both worlds. The modern cool climate Coal River vineyard delivers naturally bright flavoured fruit while the unique techniques of the winery further bring out theses flavours along with the traditional elegant body that the variety is famous for. Idiom Estate Pinot Noir is primarily sourced from our idyllic, north facing vineyard in the Coal River, Tasmania. Hand-picked, the fruit was placed into open top fermenters, with 30% of the whole bunches intact. The fruit was allowed to sit and cold soak before fermentation initiated. Once fermenting, the cap was gently plunged and then headed down to allow for soft extraction. Undergoing malolactic during the primary fermentation, the wines were transferred to a mixture of new and old French oak barriques to finish out fermentation. The wine remained in these barrels for a further 12 months until bottling. WINEMAKER COMMENTS Crimson in colour with a fine clarity, the wine offers bright aromas of strawberry and cream, red cherries and a hint of smoky oak. The medium bodied wine carries these aromas into the palate with flavours of dark forest fruits and sweet spices, all of which linger in a flavour driven finish with a traditional savouriness. WINE ANALYSIS Acid: 5.4 g/L pH: 3.5 Harvested: April 2016 Bottled: July 2017 Alcohol by volume: 13.7% Winemakers: Robert Heywood, Peter Warr “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL” The use of idioms is common place within the wine industry, from banter in the vineyard rows to assessing aged wines in the cellar. Emerging as a signature variety in Tasmania, this wine is unmistakably Pinot Noir with its fresh strawberry and cherry aromas and velvety texture.
