IdentityInquiry Question:Is it possible to express your identity through art?

When we looked at art created by Ted Harrison, we tried to identify who he was. We askedquestions like?

★Where does he live?★What are his interests?

★What is his culture?★What does he like?★ Looking at the color he uses, what kind of person might he be?★What is the subject matter, and what does that tell us about the artist?

After looking at his art, we made many assumptions. Some of them were right and some ofthem were wrong.Landscapes, buildings, people, and animals are all dominant in his art work. Use of line andcolor is highly stylized to the point that it has become synonymous with Ted Harrison. (Thismeans that you see the art, you think Ted Harrison.)

Look at his art again. Use descriptive language to explain what you notice about:

Task:

★You are to look for a picture of Saskatoon. Something that you think represents where

you live and what your community looks like. Some examples might be: a picture of the

school, a field, the river bank, an old building.

★You must recreate this imagine in the style of Ted Harrison.

★You will sketch out the design on scrap paper to get a sense of size, scale,

composition.

★You must decide what you want to include in the picture. Will you include people,

animals, cars? What colors will you use? How will those colors represent you?

★Once you have your piece the way you want it, re-sketch it on your good paper.

★Then paint it.

Reflection:

Once you have completed your art, write a personal reflection about this assignment.

Before you begin writing you must look at your art and the inquiry question we started

with: Is it possible to express your identity through your art? You need to reflect on how

your art represents you as an artist and how it tells the world who you are. You mustalso reflect on how this art might not convey who you are. This reflection needs to be a

meaningful reflection on the question. I am looking for deep thinking.
