    A simple guide for lift owners

    Role of the duty holder*As the duty holder you are legally responsible forensuring that the lift is safe to use and that it isthoroughly examined. These responsibilities include:

    Maintaining the lift so that it is safe to use; Selecting and instructing the competent person; Ensuring that the lift is examined at statutory

    intervals (every 6 or 12 months) or in accordancewith an examination scheme drawn up by acompetent person;

    Keeping the competent person informed of anychanges in the lift operating conditions which mayaffect the risk assessment;

    Making relevant documentation available to thecompetent person, e.g. manufacturers instructionsand maintenance records;

    Acting promptly to remedy any defects;

    Ensuring that all documentation complies with theregulations;

    Record keeping.

    Selecting a competent personA competent person is someone who has sufficienttechnical and practical knowledge of the lift to be ableto detect any defects and assess how significant theyare. It is also important that the competent person issufficiently independent and impartial to allow them tomake an objective assessment of the lift.

    Passenger, platform and goods lifts

    Ideal Lifts Service Ltd offer three types of Service Contracts to cater for a variety of needs with the flexibility to be tailored toyour exact requirements. During the regular planned maintenance visits our engineers will inspect, clean, lubricate and adjust allcomponents for optimum performance and complete a report, detailing the work carried out. In addition, depending on the type ofcontract, we will either replace or identify and report worn or faulty components to you.

    We are able to maintain and repair almost all types of lift.

    Service contracts

    Regular Maintenance Visit

    Adjustment and lubrication for optimum performance

    Immediate warning of weak or faulty components

    Replacement of car and indicator lamps and alarm bell batteries etc.

    Regular cleaning in the lift shaft, pit and motor room

    Full breakdown service during normal working hours*Immediate attention to faulty small components

    Replacement to all faulty components

    Repairs, including replacement parts
