Defining ALD Parameters
14 Defining ALD Parameters
This section describes how to set the Antenna Line Device (ALD) parameterswhen Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) units are included in the antenna system.
The parameters relate to RET units designed according to standards from theAntenna Interface Standards Group (AISG).
Note: AISG RET units can only be used together with RBSs with RRUs, orwhen AIR antennas are used.
ALD parameters are defined in the following OMT windows:
• Define ALD System Setup, see Section 14.1 on page 23
• Define ALD Data, see Section 14.2 on page 26
• Define ALD Device Data, see Section 14.3 on page 26
In addition, preset individual RET configuration files are selected and sent tothe RET units, see Section 14.4 on page 27.
14.1 Defining ALD System Setup Parameters
This section describes how to set the ALD system setup parameters.
Up to six RET units can be defined for each RE unit. If more than one RET unitis defined, the RET units must be connected in a chain.
1. Select Configuration > Define > ALD System Setup... to open the ALDSystem Setup window.
2. In the ALD System Setup window, define the RET parameters for thecorresponding RE unit.
3. Select RET in the Port field for the RE unit where an RET unit is connected.
4. Place the cursor in the first of the six RET definition fields in Antenna LineDevices.
5. Define the following parameters in the Properties field for the RET unit:
• Device Type
• Unique ID. This is used only if more than one RET unit is defined foran RE

Setting IDB Parameters, G10A to G15B
Note: AIR units can contain both an active and a passive RET unit.In a cascaded configuration, Unique ID A1 must be used forthe active RET unit and P1 for the passive RET unit.
• Antenna to which the RET unit is connected
• Mechanical Tilt. This is as it is installed
• Max Total Tilt, This is the mechanical tilt + electrical tilt
• Min Total Tilt
6. Select Apply to store the set parameters.
7. Repeat the definition procedure for each RET unit to be defined.

Device Type ALD SystemSetup
Must be defined at installationfor every ALD the operatorwants to manage using theOMT
Unique ID ALD SystemSetup
Must be defined for cascadedALDs at installation to makeit possible for the RBS toaddress correctly individualALDs
Optional for single ALDconfigurations
Antenna ALD SystemSetup
Specifies which antenna anALD is mounted on, and if theantenna resides in the RBS orresides in another RBS
Mechanical Tilt ALD SystemSetup
Must be defined at installation
Defines the fixed antenna tiltangle of the installation

Defining ALD Parameters
Parameter OMT Dialog Description
Max Total Tilt ALD SystemSetup
Must be defined at installation.
The parameter defines themaximum antenna elevationincluding mechanical tilt andelectrical tilt.
Positive value indicatesdown tilt, and negative valueindicates up tilt.
Total Tilt = Mechanical Tilt +Electrical Tilt
Min Total Tilt ALD SystemSetup
Defines the minimum antennaelevation including mechanicaltilt and electrical tilt
Positive value indicatesdown tilt, and negative valueindicates up tilt.
Total Tilt = Mechanical Tilt +Electrical Tilt
Electrical Tilt Define ALDData
The electrically controlled tiltof the antenna main beamregarding the antenna elementaxis
The required value is set fromOMT and the current value isreported from the RET unit.
A change of the Electrical Tiltparameter automaticallyupdates the Total Tiltparameter.
Total Tilt Define ALDData
Automatically updates theElectrical Tilt parameter, which changes the tilt of theantenna main beam regardingthe antenna element axis
Total Tilt ≤ Mechanical Tilt +Electrical Tilt

14.2 Defining ALD Data
This section describes how to set the ALD data parameters for individual RETunits.
After the IDB has been installed, and with OMT Connected, the ALD dataparameters for Tilt can be set as follows:
1. Select Configuration > Define > ALD Data to open the Define ALD Datawindow.
2. In the Define ALD Data window, select the RET unit to be defined in theALD: field.
3. Set the required tilt parameters, Electrical Tilt, or Total Tilt, for theselected RET unit. See Table 10.
4. Select Apply to store the set parameters.
5. Repeat the definition procedure for each RET unit to be defined.
14.3 Defining ALD Device Data
This section describes how to set the ALD device data parameters for individualRET units.
Note: The ALD device data parameters are used for information only andhave no operational impact on the ALD.
Not all ALD device data parameters are writable or supported by allvendors.
After the IDB has been installed, and with OMT Connected, the ALD devicedata parameters can be defined as follows:
1. Select Configuration > Define > ALD Data to open the Define ALD Datawindow.
2. In the Define ALD Data window, select the RET unit to be defined in theALD: field.
Then click Edit Device Data... to open the Define ALD Device Datawindow.
3. In the Define ALD Device Data window, define the parameters in thefollowing table for the selected RET unit.

14.4 Defining RET Configuration Data
This section describes how to select and send a preset RET configurationdata file to an RET unit.
Note: RET units in AIR are preconfigured from the factory, and RETconfiguration files cannot be sent to AIR.
After the IDB has been installed, and with OMT Connected, the RETConfiguration Data file can be selected and sent to the ALD as follows:
1. Select Configuration > Define > ALD Data to open the Define ALD Datawindow.
2. In the Define ALD Data window, select the RET unit to be configured in theALD: field.
3. In the RET Configuration Data field, click Browse...
4. In the file system, select the configuration file for the relevant RET unit.
5. Click Send.
15 Defining ALNA/TMA Parameters
Note: The instructions in this section are not valid for definition of ATMAs, thatis Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMA) designed according to standardsfrom Antenna Interface Standards Group (AISG).
However, when an AISG TMA (ATMA) is used in mixed mode only, theATMA gain must be included in calculation of the feeder loss. SeeSection 16.2 on page 32.
This section describes how to set the ALNA/TMA parameters, if this isapplicable.
The TMA parameters must be set when a TMA is connected and thecharacteristics of the TMA are different from the default values in the IDB filesin the OMT. If any parameter is missing, the default values must be used.
1. Select Configuration > Define > ALNA/TMA... to open the DefineALNA/TMA Parameters window.
2. In the Define ALNA/TMA window, select the relevant TMA and click Run.
