THE GAME: Idaho hits the road for the first of two back-to-back games against Power-5 opponents. The Vandals play Indiana at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. The game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Pacific (7:30 p.m. EDT) and will broadcast to a national audience on the Big Ten Network. 2. ABOUT IDAHO: The Vandals are on the road after a 68-0 win over Simon Fraser, one of the most lopsided wins in program history. Seven Idaho players scored touchdowns in the season opener, including three from running back Roshaun Johnson. Logan Prescott also added a 21- yard field goal. Eight vandals carried the ball and eight Idaho players caught passes in the winning effort. 3. ABOUT INDIANA: The Hoosiers are coming off a disappointing season-opening loss to Iowa in a Big Ten Conference battle. Indiana gave up three interceptions, including two pick-sixes in the 34-6 loss. Despite the lopsided score, the Indiana defense held Iowa to just 303 yards and 18 first downs. The Hoosiers couldn’t find an offensive rhythm and failed to get the ball into the endzone. Stephen Carr led the rushing attack with 57 yards and ty Fryfogle had a team-high 84 receiving yards on five receptions. 4. TRE WALKER: Fourth-year linebacker Tre Walker proved why he’s the best in the Big Sky last season. He led the conference with 13.5 tackles per game in his four outings and went on to earn five All-America honors. Walker was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the top defensive player in FCS. His preseason accolades got better, as he was named the Big Sky Conference Preseason MVP and has been a consistent First Team Preseason All-America selection. 5. COACHING CHANGES: Head coach Paul Petrino announced coaching changes. Brian Reader was promoted to Offensive Coordinator after the retirement of veteran assistant Kris Cinkovich. Quarterbacks coach Charley Molnar was promoted to Assistant Head Coach and Pryce Tracy added the title of Recruiting Coordinator to his running back duties. 6. QB BATTLE: Idaho enters the 2021 fall season with three strong options at the quarterback position. Mike Beaudry and CJ Jordan entered last year looking to battle for the starting spot, while Zach Borisch emerged as a dark horse candidate following his incredible performance at Eastern Washington. All three continue to compete for the starting job in Moscow. INDIVIDUAL STATISTICAL LEADERS

BOTH SIDES OF THE BALLJunior captain Logan Kendall has made a name for himself as a fullback and tight end, but the All-American has show himself usefull on the defensive side of the ball. He recorded a sack against Simon Fraser and has shown the ability to be a disruptive force on the edge for the Vandals.

Kendall isn’t the only one showing his versatility. sophomore Tommy McCormick flipped from receiver to safety and grabbed an interception in Saturday’s game against Simon Fraser. All American linebacker Tre Walker also carried the ball six times for 26 yards in the spring season.

VANDAL FOOTBALL A FAMILY AFFAIRThe 2021 Vandal football roster includes five sets of brothers and two sets of twins. The McCormick brothers (Sean and Tommy) and the Hatten brothers (Hayden and Hogan) are twins. Along with the twins, redshirt junior defensive lineman Noah Elliss is the son of defensive line coach Luther Elliss.

TRANSFERSThe Vandals added several transfers ahead of the fall season. Wide receivers Terez Traynor and Mekhi Stevenson, as well as Michael Graves, are expected to have an immediate impact for the Vandal offense. Defensively, KJ Jarrell and Jeremiah Salaam highlight a reloaded secondary.

POINTS IN HISTORYThe Vandals outscored Simon Fraser to a mark of 68-0. It was the most points scored in a game since 1994 when UI topped Weber State 79-30. It is the second-largest margin of victory in Vandal history behind the 83-0 win over the College of Idaho in 1923.

PALTRY PENALTIESThe Vandals had just one penalty in the entire game against Simon Fraser. The disciplined play was matched by just four teams in the FCS.

NO PUNTS FOR YOUThe Vandals tallied 13 drives against Simon Fraser. UI tallied nine touchdowns, a field goal, a pair of fumbles and a”turnover on downs” late in the fourth quarter, but there wasn’t a single punt in the season opener.

BIG TIME BIG SKYThe Vandals belong to the Big Sky Conference, an FCS Power Conference that showed that power on Week 1. Montana, Eastern Washington and UC Davis all earned wins over FBS opponents. The Vandals hope to continue the trend with games against Indiana and Oregon State in the next two weeks.

QUICK TURNAROUNDThe Vandals returned to the field last Saturday after an offseason that was just 140 days long. UI ended the season with a game against NAU on April 17.

QUICK GAME NOTES

• All three quarterbacks saw action in game one. Zach Borisch got the start, but was replaced after three plays. (9/4)

• C.J. Jordan tallied 161 yards and two TDs on 7-12 passing. He also rushed for 61 yards. (9/4)

• Mike Beaufry was 10-15 for 116 yards passing and rushed for 47 yards. (9/4)

• Borisch ran for 34 yards on eight carries. (9/4)

• Roshaun Johnson tallied 87 yards and three TDs to lead the rushing attack. (9/4)

The Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center, also called the “Kibbie Dome,” is one of the most unique facilities in all of the NCAA.

The Kibbie Dome has been the home of Vandal athletics since 1975, when the barrel-arch roof was completed. In 1976, the building earned the award for America’s Outstanding Structural Engineering Achievement.

It took nearly seven years to complete the 14-story-tall structure, which is tall enough that Idaho’s Theophilus Tower dormitory would fit inside. Construction began in 1969 on the site of the former Neale Stadium, which had been partially destroyed by fire. The field and stands were completed in 1971, but it took four more years to finish the unique roof. The east end addition, which includes the athletic department offices, locker rooms, training rooms and a weight room, was completed in 1982.

In 2004, the facility began its next phase of improvement, as enhanced academic and athletic support facilities were added for student-athletes. The Norm and Becky Iverson Speed and Strength Center was added to more than double the size of the previous weight room to 7,000 square feet. Locker rooms were also expanded to more than 14,000 square feet.

Team meeting rooms, two student-athlete computer labs and study rooms and expanded academic support areas have also been added. In 2010, the athletic training and equipment rooms were expanded and upgraded to nearly double their respective work areas.

In 2010 and 2011, the old plywood end walls were replaced with state-of-the-art KalWall translucent panels as part of a major renovation to bring the building up to code. In conjunction with the end-wall replacement and fire-safety measures, the Litehouse Center, Bud and June Ford Club and expanded premium seating, suites and loge boxes were added and the Bob Curtis Press Box was completely rebuilt on the North side of the facility. Those improvements were privately funded.

The Kibbie Dome serves as both a training and competition facility for many of Idaho’s 16 varsity athletic teams, including football, basketball, track & field, tennis and starting in 2017 soccer. The facility has a capacity of more than 16,000. When the fans get excited, the Kibbie Dome crowd noise can be deafening and intimidating to opposing teams.

Beneath the football field, which is rolled up and stored at season’s end, is a premier indoor track & field facility, as well as a full indoor tennis facility. The Cowan Spectrum, where Idaho men’s and women’s basketball play their home games, is also a part of the Kibbie Dome floor. With 93,000 square feet of floor, there is plenty of room for each team to practice at the same time.

Vandal track & field athletes can practice year-round in the facility. The track is a 290-meter flat circular with eight lanes in the straightaway. It also has two long jump pits, two pole vault pits and two throwing circles. The spacious floor area also gives the Kibbie Dome enough space to host indoor discus and javelin competitions, a boast few other indoor facilities in the nation can make.

The Idaho men’s and women’s tennis programs use the facility to train and compete during the winter and in times of inclement weather conditions. The floor can be cleared for action on up to nine courts at once.

The Kibbie Dome is for more than just Vandal Athletics, too. The facility has been used to host a multitude of different events, including Idaho high school football playoffs, concerts, student activities, intramural sports, community events and graduations. The facility is also used by students and staff as a workout venue.

The internationally-renowned Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival also calls the Kibbie Dome its home. One of the banner accomplishments of the University of Idaho, the festival was recently awarded the National Medal of Arts, the nation’s most prestigious arts honor. The festival dates back to 1967 and during its history, it has featured some of the best jazz musicians to ever play, including Ella Fitzgerald, Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie, Dianne Reeves, Stan Getz, Carmen McRae, Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis and Sarah Vaughan and of course, Lionel Hampton and his New York Big Band.

Every year, thousands of high-school, middle-school and elementary-school students from hundreds of schools all around the United States and Canada make the pilgrimage to Moscow to take part in adjudicated performances, workshops and concerts.
