Attitudes toward Intimate Partner Violence in Idaho• Statewide: 36 Rural/Frontier Counties, 8 Urban counties• Idaho MIECHV Service Area:
– Urban: Kootenai & Twin Falls counties– Rural/Frontier: Jerome & Shoshone Counties
• Issues:– Only 8 Domestic Violence Courts across the state – Rural/Frontier communities in Idaho tend to be patriarchal– High levels of isolation– Tolerance of sexual violence– Dilemma of States Rights vs. Federal Law
• Positive Changes through the Idaho Coalition’s advocacy for:
– Consistent statutes, rules and policies– Increasing prevention awareness– Statewide efforts that promote individual respect and cultural competency

CHALLENGES AHEAD
• 22% of caregivers participating in home visits are men– Safety concerns: choosing an offsite location or asking “could you
walk me to my car?”– Building on the strengths of both male and female caregivers, in
addition to assessing risk.
• 70% of women who had a late completion of an RA are still enrolled– Rapport building: For some women, talking about IPV within 3
months can feel like too much too soon.
• 83% of the women who did not complete an RA are no longer enrolled– Retention: how can we better retain families with high needs?
