Two main activities supporting the Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE):– promote access to knowledge, cultural diversity
and creative content, and facilitate the digitisation and dissemination of cultural works in Europe
Support to Europeana and the digitisation of cultural heritage material
– enhance digital literacy, skills and inclusion with a view to modernising education and training systems and integrating digital learning into national curricula across Europe

• Stresses the economic aspects next to the cultural aspects
The vision
• ‘Access’ is the central concept
• Digitisation is more than a technical option, it is a moral obligation
• Main responsibilities for digitising and preserving our cultural heritage should be assumed by the public sector
recommends– To reinforce europeana as ‘the’ reference
point for European culture online– To actively and widely promote

cross-border scope

The DAE calls upon Member States to mainstream eLearning (…) for the modernisation of education (…).
Foster the use of eLearning resources in schools
• eContentplus: 47M€ were/are invested in 20 educational projects
• But there is need for further work:– eLearning resources are available, but they
are not widely used by teachers and learners– Foster the use of educational resources in
different educational contexts– accelerate adoption of eLearning
resources by stimulating demand

• Target outcomes obj. 8.2 ‘Access to Cultural Resources’:– Technologies for creating personalised and engaging digital
cultural experiences– Open and extendable platforms for building services that
support use of cultural resources for research and education– Improved and affordable technologies for digitisation of
special forms of cultural resources, including tools for virtual reconstructions
– Awareness raising of research results
