DEFINING THE TERM -TSUNAMI

D4A tsunam, also known as a seismic sea wave, is a series of waves in a water body caused by the displacement of a large volume of water, generally in an ocean or a large lake. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other underwater explosions (including detonations of underwater nuclear devices), landslides, glacier calvings, meteorite impacts and other disturbances above or below water all have the potential to generate a tsunamis natural resources and human resources

Here is the story Tom and Arlette Stuip were holidaying in Khao Lak,ThailandlWe were having breakfast at the hotel on a terrace, overlooking the pool, the beach and the Andaman Sea. My husband Tom noticed the waiters were all pointing at the sea which was receding rapidly. It was a fascinating sight. People got their cameras out and walked towards the dry seabed. The beach was full of sunbathing tourists.

Tom had an uncomfortable feeling though. He lived for two years on the beach in California and had never seen a sea behave like this. Then it clicked: the trembling he heard earlier was an earthquake. The receding water was the prelude to a tidal wave.

Tom grabbed my hand and screamed, "Run!". At that same moment, he saw a high wall of water come crashing over the reef towards us at a speed of 40-50mph. We ran uphill fast. The water was right behind us. The noise was deafening. Here

is my

story

Causes

Earthquake An Earthquake (Also Known As A Quake, Tremor Or Temblor) Is The Perceptible Shaking Of The Surface Of The Earth,

Volcanic Eruptions Several Types Of Volcanic Eruptions—during Which Lava, Tephra (And Assorted Gases Are Expelled From A Volcanic Vent Or Fissure—have Been Distinguished By Volcanologists.

Underwater Explosion

An Underwater Explosion (Is A Chemical Or Nuclear Explosion That Occurs Under The Surface Of A Body Of Water

Impact Event  An Impact Event Is A Collision Between Celestial Objects Causing Measurable Effects. Impact Events Have Physical Consequences And Have Been Found To Regularly Occur In Planetary Systems, Though The Most Frequent Involveasteroids, Comets Or Meteoroids And Have Minimal Impact.

ENLARGING THE DEFINITION

Tsunami waves do not resemble normal sea waves, because their wavelength is far longer. Rather than appearing as a breaking wave, a tsunami may instead initially resemble a rapidly rising tide, and for this reason they are often referred to as tidal waves, although this usage is not favored by the scientific community because tsunamis are not tidal in nature mbined effort of different factors

The tall and fast-moving waves also damage property and permanently alter the landscape, sometimes wiping out entire islands. They destroy everything in their path, including buildings, trees, power lines, bridges, cars, boats and more, leaving behind them a mass of solid waste and debris that is almost impossible to clean up. They also destroy animal life, insects, plants and natural resources. Hazardous materials and toxic substances are also a concern, as asbestos, oil fuel and other industrial raw materials and chemicals often leak as a result of property damage.

DEFINITION

Tsunamis are giant waves caused by undersea earthquakes, landslides or volcanic eruptions. The severity of their effects depends on a number of factors, namely the magnitude of the earthquake, landslide or volcanic eruption, along with its distance from shore. Small and undetectable tsunamis occur almost every day with little to no effect, but larger tsunamis have devastating effects to life and land that are often irreversible.
