Ever wanted to create your own individual twist on garments but never had the inspiration to? Well now is your chance, we’ve teamed up with Kit Lee to give you the simplest way to create a

beautiful Baroque inspired piece that you;re going to love!

You will need: A black shi dress, some old broken bits of gold/pearl/bronze coloured jewellery, some gold buttons, 2 metre of black guipure lace in any style, 2 metre of o-white cotton-lace trim (preferably a curtain trimming), a pair of scissors, some

tailor pins, a black cotton thread and a sewing needle.

Top tip - Never throw away broken or odd buttons keep them in a jar for your next project.

DIY

ICON

19

Page 22: ICON

1. Take a black guipure lace, pleat or gather, and pin into place on the neckline of the dress. Hand stitch the lace along the edge of the neck.

2. With the leover guipure lace, cut into 4 pieces, take 2 pieces with 2 edges overlapping each other to form a single lace patch, pin into place and hand-stitch the patch onto the hip of the dress.

ICON

20

Page 23: ICON

3. Don’t forget the hem! Align the white cotton-lace trim behind the hem-line circumference of the dress (gathering or pleating will look sweet), you could start at the side seam if you prefer, and hand stitch the trim along

the invisible hem-line.

Page 24: ICON

4. Hand-bead the broken bits of jewellery and buttons onto the guipure lace, scatter and sew into clusters, it’s best to work with various sizes of the beads, buttons to

accumulate some areas.

exploring her creative dreams. “I plan on exploring the world, as I believe that having life experience Is key for any artist.” So for now we get to appreciate her work, a beautiful true expression of herself. Take note of her because she is an artist that no doubt will go on for many years producing such marvellous work.

ank you to Sarah.

x

Sarah Louise Adams is a name to remember, a young aspiring artist who’s outlandish and striking work you will no doubt fall in love with. So when we had the opportunity to grab 30 seconds with her we thought out our questions carefully. From a young age she has always been attracted to art it followed her through school leading her to studying a foundation diploma in the subject and nally her last hurdle in the academic battle a BA Hons degree at Northumbria University. Her style isn’t for the faint hearted it’s bright and playful a key expression of her personality shows in her work and is clearly evident in her fashion style. Clashing colours and dominant print come to mind: “Colour and texture are aspects of art I appreciate and the same

goes for my dress sense. I enjoy wearing garish colours and interesting prints.” When asked her main inuences in her work her approach doesn’t change, colour is her life: “ I am inspired by various things, usually objects or visuals that are bright and bold in colour. Textures also intrigues me. Artist wise I would say my current inspirations are Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter and Jim Lambie. Our main questions we wanted to ask is how she describes her art on one word but she didn’t struggle it’s plain and simple: “Flourescentboldinyourfacemessy-ness.”Her future aspects in life are unknown at present aer completing her degreeShe plans on travelling the world and ex

THE SS13 COLLECTION FOR THE LABEL WAS A STUDY IN LUXE CONTRASTS AND

UNDERSTATED GLAMOUR.....Tailoring was key - think elegantly slouchy trousers suits, long-line blazers, oversized jackets, sculptural sweatshirts, asymmetric hemlines and an exposed shoulder or two. A grown-up, monochromatic palate featured smudgy black orals, abstract inspired prints, sketched grid patterns and wide stripes in rotation. Shots of cool colour came in the form of a pair of tailored silver trousers or a uid-looking lemon yellow suit, and contrasting textures added another dimension, with mesh and cotton jersey providing a modern counter point for sequins and luxurious silks. Stand-out pieces included a light mesh and midnight blue satin banded evening coat and palest rose-pink oversized bomber. e clothes spoke femininity with an androgynous edge. As for accessories it was plain and simple ‘keep it minimal’: giant clutches paired with ankle strap stilettos nished the garments

with a sense of insouciance.
