ICON Yachts from the Netherlands have again indulged into Italian styling, joining forces to create this formidable and striking 73m thoroughbred super-yacht design. A striking interpretation made by the Italian design studio Hot Lab based on the proven ICON technology, the 6 deck layout is tailored to present three spacious guest suites and a further two super sized 34 square meter VIP retreats. She also boasts a full owner’s deck with a 140 square meters of private terrace and helicopter landing pad access. Striking yet timeless, the Hot Lab exterior styling is a perfect blend of architectural and automotive design setting a new milestone in luxury lifestyle to indulge into the ultimate super-yacht experience. The light flooded interior spaces provide calm and well

The steel and glass structure on the aft sun deck was originally intended by Hot Lab to be an orangery, it is in fact a multifunctional space that can be dedicated to a gym, wellness area or more simply as a semi- open lounge. The use of glass renders this structure visually light and perfectly integrated with the shapes of the yacht. Glass is the element that also characterizes the upper deck: a large portion of the aft decking features flush skylights that allow light circulation with the aft main deck area underneath. In typical ICON tradition the bow area of the main deck is dedicated to the tender garage with side shell openings capable of housing two boats up to 8.5m long. Adorned with a dynamic exterior this design study features an enormous iconic beach club as a direct extension of the luxurious guest accommodation on the lower deck. The large transom platform opens up to

the sea for the ultimate beach experience on the water. The large teak folding platform furnished with sun beds is in direct continuity with the sheltered lounge area featuring bar, sauna and diving equipment store. A scenic corridor that crosses the engine room and links the beach club to the guest area which includes a fully equipped gym. The transom door can also lowered to create a safe and convenient shallow beach. At night the large glass panes illuminate the space and sea into a pool of LED colours that can be programmed depending on the mood or for party / disco entertainment. The propulsion options ranging from a conventional twin MTU common rail diesel shaft drives to a super efficient diesel electro pod drive setup; naval architecture and engineering comes from ICON.

ICONREFIT

F U L L H O U S E It’s been a very busy period within Icon’s yard these past few months. Firstly, the yard has been reunited with M/Y Icon, the first of Icon’s Yachts, who has made a reappearance in the yard for a repaint. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for all those who were involved in the realisation of this project right from the start, to catch up and see how she is doing. A number of other ships have been welcomed in to the yard including CMN’s Slipstream, sailing in to the dry dock, also here for a brand new coat of paint. But it’s not just paint that has been keeping

Icon busy, Abeking & Rasmussen’s yacht C2 arrived for some finishing outfitting and maintenance before being released out on to the open sea. Icon is also currently hosting a Vitters sailing yacht, the second this year, arriving to be commissioned on the Icon site,. The close location and easy access to the North Sea making the location ideal as a base for a variety of yacht based work. Good signs that word of the superior quality refits at Icon seems to have spread fast as the yard has been full of Super Yachts, good spirits and high praises.

C R E W F E E D B A C K Having listened hard to advice during refits from those involved, Icon was delighted to see the positivity flooding around the yard between everyone involved. M/Y Icon’s Captain, Graeme Carr was impressed to see the lengths the yard had gone to make sure the refit was done to the highest possible standard. First Officer Barry McIntosh was also happy to provide Icon with some feedback and was very impressed that there were ‘meetings twice a week where [they] discussed and everything was planned out, working together with the captain, management and engineers’. The topic of communication was key to Barry and he added, ‘Everyone’s got mobile phones and the project manager has a radio so we could communicate with them. If we couldn’t get hold of them straight away

then they would call straight back, communication was excellent.’ These comments were echoed around the rest of the ships with the crew of C2 responding ‘always’ when asked if they could reach the right people. Location was another big topic with Barry who really appreciated the ‘close access to the North Sea so it is easy to come in and out with the yacht’. ‘A good location for a refit’ and ‘a great location for the crew’ came from the crew of C2. Slipstream reported ‘for the crew Harlingen is a very nice place with excellent operating capabilities’ following up with ‘for yachts coming from the Caribbean, Harlingen is a good option, as good as a German or British shipyard.’ The resounding success of the latest round of work is helping to establish Icon as a world leader in Yacht refits.

A B I G R E U N I O N With M/Y ICON returning to her birth place, the team used this as a prime opportunity to catch up and see how she has been doing out on the seas. High expectations were built up before the owner’s first embarkment when they were informed that ‘they should expect the best of the best, both from the crew and the yacht.’ So the yard was delighted upon hearing, ‘well for how high their expectations were, these were met and more than surpassed’. The report was full of praise stating ‘they were totally blown away by the actual yacht - they felt ICON is comfortable, stunning and also very elegant in a understated manner’. The owners as well as charter guests were also quick to point out a selection of features they most appreciated, ‘the beach [club deck] is, hands down, the most loved area, however they also commented on the silence of the engines, on the light flow throughout,

the massive master cabin and on the large size of all the cabins’. The praise of the beach club came from all angles, the crew discussed how much the owners and guests seemed to enjoy it as well as the ease of providing the best possible service to that area, thanks to the design of the yacht’s aft. Clear confirmation that Icon’s unconventional decission to place the tenders within the bow, to allow an open clutter free aft had been received with resounding success. The biggest compliment though came when one of the charter guests was asked ‘for at least one criticism or comment that [could be past on to Icon] so that the whole crew/boat can be improved... amazingly, she could not think of anything whatsoever!’For Icon to enter the world of luxury yachting at such a high standard can only be a good sign of things to come from this innovative Dutch company.

S H O W T I M E Icon will once again be making an appearance at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show and hopes to see you there. Located on a stand within Darse Nord, Icon will use this opportunity to officially release two brand new Super Yacht designs from two world leading studios, helping to confirm their place at the forefront of yacht design and innovation. Sketches and plans of new concepts will also be joining Icon on their trip to show you the latest ideas and concepts that the yard has developed. Within Darse Nord you will be able to find us at the Location QD66, the location highlighted on this map. Icon looks forward to meeting as many of you there as they can.

- ICON OUT AND ABOUT -

The Dutch summer has finally made an appearance at Icon and to celebrate they have wheeled out the barbeque. Starting with one for Icon and fellow members of the Holland Yachting Group this was a great moment to informally discuss the world of yachting over food and refreshments, an enjoyable way to strengthen the bonds and communication within the group. With so many crew members on site Icon felt they too might enjoy a barbeque, Dutch style. This gave the opportunity for crew from all the different yachts to socialise as well as chat with all those working upon getting their yachts back to a world class standard. Another example of Icon going above and beyond to make sure communication is strong throughout the yard.
