DAY 3 - Black Beach ReynisfiaraStudents experience the hot spring garden of Hveragerdi and view the Icelandic horses grazing in the fields. They come to the Island mountains (Eyjafoll) where they can see the Westman Islands and active volcanoes. The Waterfall Seljalandsfoss allows students the unique opportunity to walk behind it and look out from the other side. Among some of the other South Shore highlights are the Black Beach Reynisfjara, where students can marvel at the basalt cliffs and diverse bird life, and the Glacier Solheimajokull, offering a unique view of frozen mountains. Once the day is complete, students again return to Reykjavik for another wonderful, delicious meal and a night at the hotel.

DAY 4 - Old Harbor, Whale WatchingStudents make their way to the Old Harbor in downtown Reykjavik, where they are greeted by a guide at the Whale Watching Centre, located aboard an old fishing vessel. They embark out on the southern part of Faxafloi, and try to witness some of the abundant cetacean ranging from the common Minke whales and White-beaked Dolphins to the occasional Humpback whales and even Killer Whales.

Once returning to the harbor, grab one of the foods Iceland is most famous for in the world: hot dogs. While it may seem like it is as American as apple pie or Fourth of July, Icelandic hot dogs have their place in the lore of global cuisine and students will not want to miss out on the opportunity to hang out seaside and enjoy one.

DAY 5 - Blue LagoonThe last adventure to cap off an amazing Iceland tour takes the students to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where there is an abundance of gorgeous scenery. Sprawling lava fields and historic villages lie along the journey, along with geothermal ground cooking kitchens and the amazing Reykjanesviti Lighthouse, where waves break against it and create a breathtaking picture.

Finally, the students arrive at the famous “Bridge Between the Continents” that connects the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. With a surrounding of incredible coastline, it is an ideal place to reflect on the week’s adventures. From there, students can take a dip in the revered Blue Lagoon, one of the most popular spas in Iceland, before departing back for Reykjavik for a wonderful final dinner.

DAY 6 - DepartureWith a week’s worth of memories and new experiences, it is time to board the bus and get back to the airport for a safe journey back home.

TRIP DETAILS AT A GLANCE DAY 1 - ReykjavikUpon arrival at the airport, transportation will be waiting to bring the students to the hotel, where they will be able to relax and freshen up after the long international flight. Then, enjoy a wonderful breakfast before heading to the first stop on a full day of Iceland sightseeing! The first stop on the tour is the National Museum of Iceland, where students are immediately surrounded by the country’s storied past. Exhibitions include artifacts dating back to early settlement as well as a comprehensive guide to the early Viking people.

This brings you right into your afternoon guided walking tour of the city. The tour begins at the 19th-century Parliament House and includes can’t-miss sights like Harpa Concert Hall, the Prime Minister’s office and a beautiful walk along the ocean.

DAY 2 - Golden Cirlce, Secret LagoonThe bus arrives and brings the students through the Icelandic countryside on the famed Golden Circle Route, a loop where many attractions rest along the quiet and untouched land beneath the Volcanic backgrounds.

First, the buses stop at the Hellisheðavirkjun, also known as the Hellisheidi Power Station, which is the third largest geothermal power station in the world. As a primary provider of electricity in Reykjavik, it is a fantastic chance for students to learn about important sustainable energy initiatives and the geothermal wonder that allows Iceland to be one of the leaders in sustainability.

From there, the students are taken to the Secret Lagoon, a magical hot springs set in the small village of Fludir. After a long day of travelling, the geothermally heated warm water, is the perfect way to relax and enjoy the surrounding serenity. There is also a geyser that erupts every five minutes, offering entertainment during the period of relaxation.
