BACKGROUNDImpact Assessment (IA) has become an integral part of any research study. It, not only justifies the investment made, but also helps in prioritizing projects. The ultimate objective of this exercise is to make an impact from the output of the projects carried out. Researchers and extension functionaries involved in the upliftment of farmers through various research projects, training activities, KVK interventions, Farmer FIRST, ARYA, etc. are bound to justify their resource utilization through unbiased and objective based impact assessments.

In IA, even though the scale of measurement, criteria and indicators varies widely across the programmes, over years, the development in methodologies and associated analytical techniques have drifted impact study more towards objective assessment. IA is complex and viewed through various facets like social, cultural, institutional, technological, economic, environmental, etc.

This training programme is designed to orient the concept of IA in agricultural research, training and extension and to make the participants to acquire skills in socio-economic impact assessment techniques. It will orient the participants with the basics of statistics and hands-on with popular software such as SAS or R. It will be useful to researchers involved in agricultural projects, extension/KVK scientists, sociologists, and others who are interested to measure the impact of agriculture related projects.
