Instruction Manual IBR_VCP

1. Introduction

The driver IBR_VCP creates an interface between IBR - measuring- and interface instruments and any ap-plication software. It simulates a COM-Port on the Windows-PC, which can be opened by the application software and simu-lates the command set and measuring value format of standard instruments ( i.e. IBRit-mc/md, MUX10, MUX50, Opto-RS232, ... ). The simulation of COM-Port and command set allows that most application software does not need to be modified for working with the IBR - measuring- and interface instruments.

2. Features

 Support of all IBR - measuring- and interface instruments ( IBRit-mc/md/di8/da8/de8, IMBus, IBRit-rf1, B100, C100, ... )

 Simulation of a COM-Port under Windows 2000 / XP / Vista

 Simulation of the data protocols of IBRit-mc/md, Mux10, Mux50, Opto-RS232, ... instruments

Programming of an user-defined command and measuring value format which is simulated by

IBR_VCP driver No additional configuration of system is necessary

2. Go to Start / Run and enter <Letter of CDROM-Drive>: \ IBR_VCP \ IBR_VCP_INST Start installation by clicking on the OK-Button.

The installation programme requests then the instal lation parameters in a few windows.

3. The first window allows the selection of the language for installation programme.

Click the Next> button to confirm. 4. The second and third windows display some general information.

Click the Next> button to confirm. 5. The forth window requests the directory of IBR_VCP driver.

Click the Next> button to confirm. 6. In the fifth window you can select the folder for Start / Programmes .

Click the Next> button to confirm. 7. The sixth window displays your choice of settings once again for control purposes and can be confirmed

by clicking on the Installation button.

Now the installation takes place !!! 8. At the end of the installation click on the Finish button to restart the PC.

4. Start of the IBR_VCP driver

The IBR_VCP driver is automatically started after the Start of the PC.

First Start of IBR_VCP driver

The Setup Windows of IBR_VCP driver will be opened automatically ( see chapter 5 ). Connect the IBR interface(s) or measuring instrument(s) according to the instructions given in the instruc-tion manuals of the instrument(s). After this switch on the instrument(s). Then make the settings inside the Setup Windows of IBR_VCP driver.

Further Starts of IBR_VCP driver

The IBR_VCP driver automatically starts with the programmed settings.

The Main Window of IBR_VCP driver can be opened by clicking on the IBR logo in the traybar :

IBR_VCP main window :

Language Selection of the used language inside the IBR_VCP windows Simulated COM-Port Selection of the COM-Port-Number of the Virtual COM-Port Info Info over IBR_VCP driver Setup Setup Windows of IBR_VCP driver In Traybar Hide IBR_VCP main window and activate Icon in traybar Quit Stop the IBR_VCP driver

When the Virtual COM Port is used by an application software, then it is not possible to select another Simulated COM-Port or to Quit the IBR_VCP :

The auto-start of IBR_VCP can be disabled by deleting the IBR_VCP icon in Start / Programs / Startup .

The IBR_VCP driver can be programmed, that it allows to create up to 4 COM-Ports in parallel, but the communication is only possible over one of the 4 COM-Ports at one time point. By function keys the opera-tor can switch between the 1..4 COM-Ports. Because of that it is possible to use several software packages at same time, which are using the 1..4 COM-Ports and by function keys the operator can select, in which software package the measuring values are transferred.

Selection of :

The window for selecting the 1..4 COM-Ports with assignment of the function keys for switching between the COM-Ports opens :

On data collection the IBR-logo is not longer shown in the Traybar :

now the number of the active COM-Port is shown :

In relation to the example above the software displays : 1 for COM4 2 for COM5 3 for COM6 4 for COM7

5. SETUP-Settings for „ Standard-Applications“

On pressing the Setup button the System-Setup Window for programming the IBR_VCP appears :

5.1 Devices Press Setup-Button for “PC and Measuring Instrument Settings”. The window for selecting the PC-Connection ( i.e. USB, COM1, LAN, … ) and for selecting the connected instrument ( IBRit-rf1 / IMBus ) will be opened :

Select at first the PC connection and then the connected IBR instrument.

IBRit-rf1 :

On IBRit-rf1 the modules can be configured ( i.e. address setting ) by pressing the “Service” button. Please see manual of IBRit-rf1.

IMBus :

After selecting IMBus the measuring bus is analysed and all connected IMBus modules are shown.

By the “Setup” buttons behind each measuring input you can i.e. select on interface modules the connected gauge :

or on inductive probes, air-gauging-systems, analogue signals, … you can select the resolution, measuring direction, … :

By the buttons “Zeroadjust.”, “Calibration” and “Mech. Adjust” you can calibrate and adjust the probes, … :

After the selection of the PC connection and connected instrument as well as after the configuration of the IBRit-rf1 modules or IMBus please leave the window by OK button.

5.2 Simulated Interface- / Measuring Instrum ent

In this window can be selected, which Interface or Measuring Instrument is simulated by IBR_VCP.

5.3 Measuring Inputs

a) State : Activates / Deactivates the particular measuring input for data transfer.

b) Addr. for request command : Addr. for mea. value string : The addresses are automatically set. A changing is only necessary for

special applications, if i.e. ADR1.3 should get the address 1. In these cases both addresses ( for request command and for measuring value string ) must be together exchanged.

c) Request by foot switch : Activates / Deactivates the automatic data transfer on pressing the foot switch.

5.4 Foot switch

In this menu the foot switch is selected, by which the automatic measuring value transfer into application software shall be triggered.

5.5 Load / Save Configurations

It is possible to save several IBR_VCP configurations in file, which can be load depending on the applica-tion.

Note : The configurations do not contain the selected language, do no contain the simulated COM-Ports and do not contain the „PC- and measuring instruments settings”.

7. Important Conditions to use IBR_VCP drive r

1. IBR Software products are not developed and tested for the high demands in the medical field, in combination with applications in the medical field or in critical components in life-saving systems whose malfunctions or failure can lead to personal injury.

2. On absolutely all applications the stability of the software can be influenced by different factors, i.e.

fluctuations in the power supply, computer hardware errors, operating system errors, compiler er-rors, installation errors, software and hardware compatibility problems, not defined use or misuse or errors by the operator. ( All kinds of these errors are called in the following document : SYSTEMERRORS )

3. All applications which contains the risk that SYSTEMERRORS can lead to damages or personal

injuries should not only depend on electronic systems. To prevent damages or injuries the operator or system developer should create reasonable precautions against SYSTEMERRORS or their consequents ( including backup or shutoff mechanisms ).

4. Because all computer systems are adapted for the operator the systems are different in compare to

the IBR test systems. Because the IBR products can also be integrated in applications not tested or not intended in this way by IBR the operator or system developer is completely responsible for the test and release of the applications in which IBR products are embedded. This contains the struc-ture, the procedure and the security level of the application.

5. In no event IBR will be liable for any damages including lost profits for any special, indirect, inciden-

tal or consequential damages arising out of the use or inability to use the product, whether claimed under the safety instructions or otherwise.

6. Corporate guidelines and safety regulations enforced by the industrial trade associations for the

prevention of industrial accidents must be strictly observed. Make sure to consult the safety officer at your company.
