Overview

In today’s hybrid cloud environment, a robust artificial intelligence operations(AIOps) management program has become a must, including coverage of the criticalsubsystems that run on the IBM Z(R) platform. Real-time resource monitoring is thefoundation of any AIOps solution, and now IBM Z OMEGAMON(R) Data Provider, a newcomponent of IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor 5.6, makes the rich metricscaptured by OMEGAMON monitoring available to state-of-the-art AI and machinelearning solutions to help detect problems faster, determine appropriate responsesmore quickly, and automate the actions needed to remediate and prevent futureoccurrences. IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor is an element of two differentsuites, IBM Z Service Management Suite 2.1.1, and IBM Z Monitoring Suite 1.2.1,adding value to the solutions they already provide.

IBM Z Service Management Suite 2.1.1

IBM Z Service Management Suite 2.1.1 delivers robust monitoring, observability, and automation management, including asset discovery, with an embedded ChatOpsengagement model, forming the foundation of the journey to AIOps for IBM Z,to support the dynamic growth of transaction workload and data sharing for themodern hybrid cloud.

IBM Z Monitoring Suite 1.2.1

IBM Z Monitoring Suite 1.2.1 delivers robust monitoring and observability, including IBM(R) Resource Measurement Facility, and an embedded ChatOpsengagement model, forming the foundation of the journey to AIOps for IBM Z. Theseenhancements support the dynamic growth of transaction workload and data sharingfor the modern hybrid cloud.

IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor 5.6, an element of the two suites describedpreviously, now includes IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider. This new componentprovides a full set of z/OS(R) metrics curated by OMEGAMON to a variety of popularvisualization and analytics platforms, such as Prometheus (for use with Grafana),Apache Kafka, Elastic, and Splunk. Sample dashboards for Elastic are providedto help clients get started quickly. Each of these analytics solutions offer greatflexibility in customization and the capability to combine data from multiplesources into single dashboards for 360-degree views of systems infrastructure andapplications.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM Z IBM International Program License Agreement(IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterpriseaggregation. Each IBM Z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price perValue Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting fromsome designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of ServiceUnits (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the mostcommon measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of thisdescription.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each IBM Z IPLA program withValue Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBMterms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity . Each of thevarious Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquelyidentified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each IBM Z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to asentitled license capacity . If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for anIBM Z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units isbased upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each IBM Z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

• Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs.

• Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise.

• Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit.

• Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determinethe total cost.

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or viceversa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain acopy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, see the IBM Z Software Pricing website.

Page 3: IBM Z Service Management Suite 2.1.1 and IBM Z Monitoring

IBM United States Software Announcement 221-357 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3

Note that Value Units of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, oraggregated with Value Units of another program.

To determine the required license capacity for the IBM Z IPLA program you selected, see the Terms and conditions section.

Execution based, z/OS based, full machine based: The required capacity of an IBMZ IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machineswhere the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

IBM full-capacity ratings that can be found on the Mainframe Exhibits section of the IBM Z (z Systems(R) Software Contracts) website.

Reference based: The required license capacity of a IBM Z IPLA program with theseterms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC)program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution based: The required capacity of an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity programwith these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the IBM Z IPLA programexecutes.

z/OS based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with theseterms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the IBM Z IPLAprogram executes.

Reference based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with theseterms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC)program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with fullmachine based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the IBMZ IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, see The IBM z Systems(R)

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent programacross the environment, regardless of where in the environment the IBM Z IPLAprogram executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualifiedParallel Sysplex(R). You may have one or more different environments across theenterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each IBM Z IPLA programwith referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used ina qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the IBM ZIPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across theParallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:

• Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex.

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select IBM Z IPLA programs, you mustfirst implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload LicenseCharges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). Toimplement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be IBM Z (or equivalent). Onthat machine:

• All instances of the OS/390 operating system must be migrated to the z/OSoperating systems.

• Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued.

Page 24: IBM Z Service Management Suite 2.1.1 and IBM Z Monitoring
