These release notes are for the IBM® XIV® Storage System GUI version 4.0.

Supported microcode releasesThis version supports all IBM XIV releases.

What's new in XIV GUI version 4.0Multi-system management

The IBM XIV GUI has shifted from single-system management tomulti-system management, featuring:v An aggregation of important information for all managed systems.v Multiple hardware monitoring and system views.v Two additional All Systems views with unique functionality.v Timezone awareness - an ability to align the UI date and time

presentation.v Multi system configuration.v Ability to work with a middleware server while preserving the direct

behaviour that is familiar from previous releases.v A quick comparison between systems.

Client-server architectureThe IBM XIV GUI can connect to the Multi-System Manager in order to getenhanced features:v Multi system views (a.k.a. Consolidated views).v Change the configuration over multiple systems at once.v Central systems repository available for all users.v Smart authentication mechanism to display only authenticated systems

to the user.v Introducing the Server Administrator role.v Fast loading time.v Support up to 144 systems.

Faster navigation

v A new System Selector component allows for fast switching betweensystems from within a view.

v Simpler, faster search for systems.v Search for snapshot groups and system groups.v A better systems grouping mechanism and system sorting by any

parameter.v Actions execution from the All Systems view.v A new hardware monitoring tooltip is displayed anywhere the system is

mentioned.

Limitations

UI-221827The GUI Installer does not support windows Vista / 7 UAC feature.

Workaround

1. Install the GUI with administrator privileges (right-click and run asadministrator).

2. Run the application icons as administrator, as well.

UI-243770Mass copy and paste of LDAP configuration has the following limitations:

XIV systems of all versions below 10.2.2LDAP configuration can not be copied from these versions.

XIV systems of versions between 10.2.2 and 10.2.4The feature is supported up to version 10.2.4.

LDAP configuration can not be copied from versions 10.2.4 and below toversions above 10.2.4.

Versions above 10.2.4The feature is supported among all versions above 10.2.4.

LDAP configuration can not be copied from versions above 10.2.4 toversions 10.2.4 and below.

UI-247041Changing the PC local time when the GUI is open, may also change the systemtime.

Workaround:Restart the GUI.

Fixed issues

UI-24842A group can contain up to 8 XIV systems.

UI-172141While installing XIV Management Tools on Windows 2000, the installation may failwith this error message:

Workaround:Uninstall the Management Tools.

Update your workstation as follows:v Windows 2000 should have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

Package" installed - this will prevent the error fromoccurring. Download the package from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29

v If "2008 Redistributable Package" failed to install, you must upgradewindows 2000 to SP4 Rollup 1. To obtain Windows 2000 Service Pack 4(SP4), visit the following Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1001AAF1-749F-49F4-8010-297BD6CA33A0&displaylang=en

v After installing SP4 - install the Rollup from Microsoft site and thenrestart windows before installing "2008 Redistributable Package" Toobtain Windows 2000 SP4 Rollup 1, visit the following MicrosoftWebsite: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18997

UI-246809Whenever the Preferences are changed, they are stored on the client PC. Openingthe GUI on another PC does not load them, and the Default Preferences are used.

Severity:Service.

Known issues - Windows only

UI-243418The XIV GUI does not launch if the following env variables are defined:v IBM_JAVA_OPTIONSv JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS

Workaround:Delete the definition.

HIPER - An high impact problem that is pervasive: 3 or more occurrences.

ModerateA function not operational and/or performance might be degraded.

ServiceA recoverable error (no impact) and service improvement.

ImprovementsChanges made for the purpose of better usability and serviceability.
