Tivoli Common Reporting enablement with Model Maker:

The Model Maker tooling enables Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager users tomore easily report on the performance of wireless networks in Tivoli CommonReporting. Through the creation, deployment, and management of common packs,Model Maker simplifies the process of publishing report packages for networkperformance management on Tivoli Common Reporting.

Common packs extend technology pack data models and Summary and BusyHour data models to Tivoli Common Reporting on Tivoli Netcool PerformanceManager. After you install a technology pack, you install the correspondingcommon pack to enable Tivoli Common Reporting. Common packs can bedelivered in the COTS program with the corresponding technology packs, orcreated and customized by customers and business partners.

Currently, Model Maker automates the creation of wireless data models, and theirinclusion in common packs.

Model Maker consists of the following components:v Model Makerv The Common Pack Service.v The Base Common Pack Suite. Base Common Packs (BCPs) are standard

common packs that can be used as building blocks for other Tivoli NetcoolPerformance Manager common packs.

v Resource Metric Viewer (wireless only).

Note: The Model Maker tooling is available only for Tivoli Netcool PerformanceManager for Wireless.

If you want to create a report with most used interfaces in the network, youmust use the Near real-time interface to get the data and not from the database.Real time means near to zero latency and access to information whenever it isrequired. When you refresh the report, the new data is collected since the lastreport run and shows in the report.

v Support for multiple SNMP collectors. In Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager 1.4, you can have multiple collectors perhost. This helps in reducing the server resources required. In certain customerssites, they have up to 40 SNMP collectors that required 40 hosts (any of whichmight be virtual hosts).Since previous installations of Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager onlysupported multiple SNMP processes on a single physical server viavirtualization; this change makes it more likely that you have to consider thepossibility of an outage that encompasses multiple SNMP DL processes. TheHAM configuration must reflect the increased risk of a single point of failure atthe physical server level because of the process consolidation that this changeallows. For more information, see Installing Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager -Wireline Component.

v New JDBC Driver to create Cognos 10 data models that are extensions towireline technology pack models for Common Reporting.

v Supported Proviso Pack installer versionProvisoPackInstaller.jar 3.5.0.0 is compatible with both Oracle and IBM DB2.

Conflict of port number and collector number upon migration ofDataLoad collectors from one host to another in an upgradedenvironmentThis issue is seen in Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager 1.4 GA build. do notattempt to migrate an existing SNMP DataLoad collector to a host that has acollector with the same service port number. This scenario is applicable in a TivoliNetcool Performance Manager 1.4 system that was upgraded from a previousrelease. Such attempt results in database corruption.

SymptomsConsider the following upgrade scenario:v You want to move a deployed SNMP DataLoad collector to a host that has a

collector with the same port number.

In this scenario, the port number of the migrated collector conflicts with theexisting collector's port number. Currently, there is no capability to change the portnumber of a collector during migration.

Resolving the problemApply the fix pack 1.4.0.0-TIV-TNPM-IF0001, then only proceed with the migration.Specify a new service port number in the “Move Collector” configuration windowfor the collector during the move attempt.

Avoid deleting a DataChannel as all other DataChannels andassociated DataLoad collectors also get deletedIt is a good practice to keep a copy of the previous topology before you update theDataChannel configuration. Typically, avoid deleting a DataChannel.

Install DB2 10.1 Fix Pack 3 to resolve issues related toadministering and performance of DB2SymptomsYou might encounter some administration and performance issues in DB2 10.1.0.1that is the supported version for Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager 1.4.

Resolving the problemTo resolve those issues, install DB2 10.1 Fix Pack 3. You can download the DB210.1 Fix Pack 3 Universal Fix Pack from the following location:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24035759

Follow these instructions to apply the new fix pack level:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPGG_10.1.0/com.ibm.db2.luw.qb.server.doc/doc/t0024956.html

The supported scripts that are used for collecting the sizinginformation do not work on DB2

Currently, the following supported scripts that are used for collecting the sizinginformation:v check_proviso_sizing_adv.sqlv check_proviso_sizing.sqlv check_proviso_db.sql

These scripts do not work on Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager with DB2 as thedatabase support.

Some additional UBA properties with no values are seen in aloaded topology in upgrade scenarioSymptomsWhen you load a topology from the database, you might find some additionalproperties with no values in an upgrade scenario.

Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, load the particular technology pack XSD file again. Theoriginal properties of the technology pack are loaded back.

Change the password for PV User in a migrated UBA channelfrom topology.xml fileWhen you want to migrate a UBA DataChannel from one host to another host, change the password for PV User from topology.xml file and deploy again.

Element descriptions in the Resource Editor are incorrectSymptomsIn the Resource Editor, click Element > Apply Filter. You notice that thedescription is the same for all elements.

Resolving the problemTo view the correct description for an element, select the element and click Details. The property SysDescr displays the correct description for the element.

Currently, High Availability Manager (HAM) unistallation is notsupportedSymptomsWhen you try to remove the Managed Definitions and spare collectors in a HAMenvironment from Topology Editor, it results in corrupting the FTE source valuesof an unrelated DataChannel. You notice this issue when more than one 3+2Managed Definitions are present. Therefore, HAM uninstallation is not supportedcurrently.

For more information about HAM, see Installing Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager- Wireline Component.

Diagnosing the problemIn the Topology Editor, the FTE source directory points to the primary collectorSNMP.*.*/output source only and not to the primary and spare SNMP.*.*/outputsources. Hence, the NRAW files are not moved into the FTE when there is afailover of primary collector to the spare collector. This results in data that is stuckin the spare collector's output directory.

Resolving the problemIf you have uninstalled and observe that the spare collector data is not movinginto the FTE, follow these steps:1. Load the topology from the database.2. Click High Availability Manager and go to the Managed Definition of the

required HAM.3. Remove the Managed Definitions.4. Go to the Collector Process folder and remove all spare collectors.5. Create the HAM managed definitions and spare collector processes, and then

save the definition.6. Run Deployer for Installation.

Uninstallation of any Tivoli Netcool Performance Managercomponent fails in a 1+1 HAM configurationSymptomsWhen you try to uninstall a Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager component in a1+1 HAM configuration setup, uninstallation fails.

Resolving the problemTo resolve this issue, apply the 1.4.0.0-TIV-TNPM-IF0001 Fix Pack.

Aggregated Data Extraction query fails to extract the results intoan XML fileWhen you create an Aggregated Data Extraction by using Mass Data Extractioninterface, the results are not extracted into an XML file. Contact IBM ProfessionalServices if you face this issue.

Cannot start the Rule Editor on an AIX machineSymptomsWhen you start the Rule Editor on an AIX machine, you see the following error onthe terminal:[1] 10879174/opt/datamart/bin/ruleconf[3]: 14942322 Abort(coredump)

Resolving the problemTo work around this issue, follow these steps:1. Back up the existing ruleconf file.2. Manually add the following line in the ruleconf file.

==> LDR_CNTRL="MAXDATA=0x60000000" arcget `basename $0` "$@"

CMEs and cross collector CMEs might not startTypically, this issue is not seen. Occasionally, you might find that the CMEs andcross collector CMEs do not start. You notice continuous walkback files beingcreated.

Data flow obstruction at LDRSymptomsIf you find that the data flow is obstructed at LDR, increase the size of thePV_PV_ADMIN_TEMP_001.dbf tablespace.

Resolving the problemIncrease the size of the PV_PV_ADMIN_TEMP_001.dbf tablespace by using thefollowing command:SQL> alter database tempfile ’/raid_3/oradata/PV/PV_PV_ADMIN_TEMP_001.dbf’ resize 3G

Specify the size as per your requirements.

You cannot view DataView reports if you set the DATAVIEW_CONTEXTto a non-default valueDo not change the DATAVIEW_CONTEXT in a non-root installation. The default valuefor DATAVIEW_CONTEXT must be PV.
