Combining leading-edge diagnostics with AI
technology to improve outcomes for cancer patients
Predicting which patients with stage II colorectal
cancer will suffer a recurrence after surgery is
difficult. However, many are routinely prescribed
chemotherapy, even though it may cause severe
side effects. In some patients these can be fatal.
Oxford Cancer Biomarkers worked with Meridian IT
to apply IBM® PowerAI Vision to identify novel
diagnostic biomarkers in tumor microenvironments,
with the potential to enhance early diagnosis and
treatment decisions.

An opportunity to help
Currently 44% of people with autism have IQ scores
in the average to above average range. Nearly half
of 25-year-olds with autism have never held a
paying job. Looking at these statistics, IBM saw an
opportunity to bring these uniquely talented
individuals into our workforce.

Firstly, we can see that
node.js is installed
(version 8.15). That is
the platform Node-
RED runs on.
“npm” is the standard
package manager for
node.js, and we can
see that is installed.
And then we start up
Node-RED, on our
IBM i, in PASE.

we are connecting to

So, from here on in, we
are working with the

POWER9 processor based Systems have the ability to attach NVMe storage
Currently no supported VIOS or Direct configuration of NVMe by IBM i
IBM i 7.4 Announce has SOD for NVMe:
Some customers may notice NVM on some configuration screens please point to this Statement of Direction
IBM plans to add native support for Non-Volatile
Memory Express (NVMe) devices into the IBM i
Operating System.

Reminder - Retranslate Programs in IBM i 7.4
IBM Partner Ecosystem / i-Community / 9th May, 2019 / © 2019 IBM Corporation 43
Can get minor improvements to generated sequences of machine instructions
• Typical for a new release
• Provide better optimizations for isolated sequences of instructions
• Especially for newer generations of hardware
Identify programs that are performance sensitive
• Simply retranslate them, even if you do not have the source code
• Run them on the new IBM i 7.4 release for a possible performance benefit
QBNCVTPGM tool makes it easier to retranslate a set of programs
• See the Simplified program conversion article on developerWorks for details
Authority Collection
IBM Partner Ecosystem / i-Community / 9th May, 2019 / © 2019 IBM Corporation 44
A utility that captures pertinent data associated with an authority check– Covers all native IBM i file systems– Capture unique instances of the authority check
The collection will include one key piece of information… – “What authority does the OS require for this authority check?”
A security administrator or application provider can determine minimum authority required to the objects to allow the application to run successfully.
Allows “locking down” authority with no impact to existing workflow.

IBM Db2 Mirror for i: Enables Continuous Availability
• High speed synchronous replication of Db2 for i (Data Center Solution)
• Access Db2 objects from either LPAR
Application Availability Enablement • Two Nodes read and write to the same DB Files• Enables quickly moving all work to one node, for
planned maintenance or node failure
Enables Business Continuity for Disruptive System Upgrades
– Nodes can be at different OS levels – Nodes can be on different Power Hardware
Generations– Rolling upgrades for no downtime– Roll a node back a release with minimal impact if
Active/Active applications are deployed

Definition Application level clustering;
applications in the cluster have
simultaneous access to the
production data therefore no app
restart upon an app node outage.
Certain types enable read-only
access from secondary nodes
OS level clustering; one OS in the cluster
has access to the production data, multiple
active OS instances on all nodes in the
cluster. Application is restarted on a
secondary node upon outage of a
production node.
VM level clustering, One VM in a cluster
pair has access to the data, one logical OS,
one or two physical copies. OS and
applications must be restarted on a
secondary node upon a primary node
outage event. LPM enables the VM to be
moved non-disruptively for a planned

Processor Example - Pool has 1 system using more than its Base Processor Activations, but another system is
idle, using less than its Base Processor resources at the same time, so 0 Metered resource usage is recorded

Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 with Utility Capacity

Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 will offer Utility Capacity across a collection of Power E980 systems to deliver seamless
multi-system resource sharing and new flexibility for clients deploying a private cloud infrastructure.
Utility Capacity consists of :
• Base Capacity - purchased on each Power E980 system but aggregated across the pool for consumption monitoring
• Base Processor Activation (1 core - any OS)
• Base Linux Processor Activation (1 core)
• Base AIX software license entitlement (1 core)
• Base IBM i software license entitlement (1 core)
• Base 1 GB Memory usage
• Metered Capacity - additional resource above Base Capacity, activated for use when each system is added to a Pool
• Metered resource consumption is monitored by the minute at the pool level
• Metered Capacity resource consumption is charged by the minute for specific resources consumed above a pool’s
aggregated Base Capacity
• Clients may manage potential resource consumption via PowerVM & PowerVC configuration & resource management
options & policies
Requirements for Power Enterprise Pools 2.0
IBM Partner Ecosystem / i-Community / 9th May, 2019 / © 2019 IBM Corporation 66
• Client purchases or leases a Power E980 system with some “dark” resources available for temporary
use.
• Up to 16 Power E980 systems may be in the same Pool
• All Power E980 must be in the same enterprise and country
• FW 930 is required
• Up to 500 VMs at GA (SOD for 1,000)
• Shared Processor Partitions only - no Dedicated LPARs
• 25% Base Processor Activations are required
• 50% Base Memory Activations are required
• Cloud Edition software is required for every Base Processor Activation
• Cloud Management Console connection required
• All HMCs managing servers within a Pool require Network Time Protocol (NTP) to be enabled
• Performance and Capacity Monitoring (PCM) must be enabled via HMC for each server in a Pool
• Hardware & Software Maintenance are required
• Client purchases Capacity Credits from Sales (via eConfig order) or directly via Entitled System Support
(ESS) (where currently available in US, Europe & MEA) to pay for resource consumption.

Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography
“For both the 7nm and 5nm nodes, IBM and its alliance partners at the SUNY Poly Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany, NY relied heavily on transistor and interconnect patterning driven by Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography.”
