In this example, I’ve brought in multiple roles defining the access rights for a number of the sales management team, in this case organized by geography – Germany, UK, USA, and Japan are shown. As you can see by the changes in the bars, though they are all looking at the same report definition, their security profiles are filtering the available data to only show their regional sales information by product line. Each seem to have strong sales in a different product line.

With IBM Cognos, data residing within BW can be formatted at report runtime: Automatic unit of measure formatting based on what is returned by SAP BW. Formatting (currency, date, text, percentage, and so on) as set in Framework Manager, Report Studio or Query Studio. As part of the certified integration with SAP NetWeaver, IBM Cognos provide iView components which are used to display IBM Cognos content within the SAP portal. Content summaries, search boxes, reports, charts, dashboards, scorecards and more are all displayed, leverage existing SAP security and are customizable within the NetWeaver portal. Additional IBM Cognos capabilities such as report bursting can be utilized to run a report once and divide the results for distribution to multiple recipients where each recipient will only view defined a subset of data. The IBM Cognos 8 Adaptive Platform leverages IBM Cognos 8 BI and provides a wrapper around IBM Cognos 8 BI to simplify the deployment and management of the IBM Cognos 8 Analytic Applications. Adaptive Warehouse will reduce the deployment time and deliver value sooner, simplify development and maintenance to reduce total cost of ownership, and free up IT resources to focus on work that adds more value than simple reporting. Adaptive Analytics allows business users to receive more timely management information. Conventional reporting authoring is not required, leading to significant time and cost savings in the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the workforce application. IT resources needed to support and maintain the applications will be greatly reduced. The Adaptive Warehouse ensures that new data elements can be added to the data warehouse quickly and easily at low cost.
