IBM Debug for z/OS 15.0 enhancements

IBM Debug for z/OS provides advanced debugging of composite applications for yourz/OS environments. IBM Debug for z/OS 15.0 delivers the following enhancements:

• Eclipse 4.8 support. The IBM Debug for z/OS 15.0 Eclipse client is built on anEclipse Photon 4.8 base to enable integration with IBM Explorer for z/OS Aqua3.2 and other Eclipse 4.8 features and plug-ins.

• New code coverage capabilities. Developers want to be confident that testautomation covers the changes that they have made to the program. Testsare only effective if they test the areas of the program that are modified. Codecoverage enables you to measure test effectiveness to help ensure that quality isbuilt-in to your changes. Code coverage improvements in version 15.0 include:

– Code coverage for PL/I programs that are compiled with LISTVIEW(SOURCE).PL/I developers can now see code coverage for code in include files. This givescode coverage results in context, versus having to correlate code coverageresults between the program source and individual include files.

– Simplified parameters for headless code coverage collection. Headless codecoverage now supports single letter parameters to help simplify invocationthrough the use of the command line or the startup key in Job ControlLanguage (JCL).

– Headless code coverage is now packaged in IBM Debug for z/OS.

– IBM Debug for z/OS can now run headless code coverage through the use ofccstart, ccstop, and codecov scripts.

• 64-bit COBOL application debugging. z/OS application developers can nowdebug AMODE 64 applications compiled with IBM Enterprise COBOL 6.3 (with theLP(64) compiler option) in Debug Tool compatibility mode, which enables z/OSapplication developers to access data items greater than the existing AMODE 31data size limits without changes to the program logic.

• 64-bit C/C++ application debugging. This capability is now supported with DebugTool compatibility mode.

• Quicker navigation in the Debug Profile Editor. The Debug Profile Editor offers aquick outline view to more easily maneuver the different sections of the DebugProfile Editor.

• New debug capabilities for use with IBM Rational(R) Integration Tester. IBM Debugfor z/OS and IBM Developer for z/OS Enterprise Edition clients can use thenew debug service in conjunction with the Rational Integration Tester beta tointeractively record and playback Db2 SQL statements. This enables virtualizationof Db2 calls to simplify system test activities such as functional testing orintegration testing.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM Z IBM International Program License Agreement(IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterpriseaggregation. Each IBM Z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price perValue Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting fromsome designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of ServiceUnits (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the mostcommon measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of thisdescription.

Page 7: IBM Application Delivery Foundation for z/OS 3.3 and IBM

IBM United States Software Announcement 220-425 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 7

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each IBM Z IPLA program withValue Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBMterms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of thevarious Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquelyidentified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each IBM Z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to asentitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for anIBM Z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units isbased upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each IBM Z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

• Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs.

• Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise.

• Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit.

• Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determinethe total cost.

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain acopy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, see the IBM Z Software Pricing website.

Note that Value Units of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, oraggregated with Value Units of another program.

To determine the required license capacity for the IBM Z IPLA program you selected, see the Terms and conditions section.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each IBM Z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that programneeded to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the requiredlicense capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

• The IBM Z IPLA program you select.

• The applicable Value Unit Exhibit.

• The applicable terms.

• Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity.

For more information about the Value Unit Exhibit for the IBM Z IPLA program youselected, see the Ordering information section.

Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based, z/OS-based, full machine-based: The required capacity of an IBMZ IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machineswhere the IBM Z IPLA program executes.

For more information about mainframe MSU-rated capacities, go to the IBM Zsoftware pricing resources web page.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a IBM Z IPLA program with theseterms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC)program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based: The required capacity of an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity programwith these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the IBM Z IPLA programexecutes.

Page 20: IBM Application Delivery Foundation for z/OS 3.3 and IBM

IBM United States Software Announcement 220-425 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 20

z/OS-based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with theseterms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the IBM Z IPLAprogram executes.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program with theseterms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC)program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine-based: The required license capacity of an IBM Z IPLA program withfull machine-based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where theIBM Z IPLA program executes.

For more information about mainframe MSU-rated capacities, see the IBM zSystems(R) Machines Exhibit, Z125-3901, or see the Exhibits section on the IBM Zsoftware pricing resources web page.

IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms add value to theparent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment theIBM Z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualifiedParallel Sysplex(R). You may have one or more different environments across theenterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each IBM Z IPLA programwith referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When an IBM Z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is usedin a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of theIBM Z IPLA program must equal the license capacity of the parent program acrossthe Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one where MLC pricing isaggregated across the sysplex.

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select IBM Z IPLA programs, you mustfirst implement and comply with all terms of one of the following:

• Sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC)

• Sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC)

• Sub-capacity Advanced Workload License Charges (AWLC)

• Sub-capacity Advanced Entry Workload License Charges (AEWLC)

To implement sub-capacity WLC, EWLC, AWLC, or AEWLC, a machine must be anIBM Z (or equivalent). On that machine:

• Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued.

• All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture(R)

(64-bit) mode.

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM eachmonth. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity ReportingTool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, go to the IBM Zsoftware pricing tools web page.

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever isapplicable:

• The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBMCustomer Agreement - Attachment for z Systems Workload License Charges(Z125-6516).
