The manual setup method must be used if your iPhone is not connected to the same local network as the Mac running iBank. If your iPhone IS on the same local network as your Mac, we recommend instead using the automatic setup covered in the iBank user manual. For these purposes, the local network means a wireless network such as the kind created by an Airport, Linksys, or similar kind of router. MobileMe Setup The syncing method detailed here requires that you are subscribed to Appleʼs MobileMe online service. This service is not provided or supported by IGG Software. IBank is simply one of the many great programs that can make use of the service to exchange data between your computer and your iPhone. If you are not set up with MobileMe, open your browser and visit http://me.com to sign up. A free trial is available, after which you pay Apple a yearly subscription fee. Terms and conditions are subject to change according to Appleʼs product policy. Going forward, we assume you have signed up for MobileMe, and you know your MobileMe username and password. In this document, I use my own username, jstaloff, as an example; you should use your own instead.

iBank Mobile: Setting up Manual Sync via MobileMeOverviewThis manual will walk you through manually setting up iBank and iBank Mobile to talk to each other through your MobileMe account.

MobileMe SetupThe syncing method detailed here requires that you are subscribed to Appleʼs MobileMe online service.

Configuring your Mac to connect to your MobileMe accountOpen your System Preferences (under the Apple Menu), and click the icon for MobileMe.

If you donʼt see this option, you may be running an older version of the Mac OS X operating system and need to upgrade before continuing.

Enter your MobileMe account infoPut the username and password for your MobileMe membership into the control panel. It will take a few moments to validate your password, and then show you the account status window.

Now your Mac is connected to your MobileMe account! Letʼs proceed to get iBank set up to take advantage of that.

iBank Setup (on your Mac)First, set up iBank. In this document, weʼre assuming the iPhone is not on the same local network as your Mac, so weʼll choose a manual setup. Not scary!

Choose “Setup Device for Syncing...” from the File menuThis brings up the sync setup menu within iBank

Devices Found Running iBank MobileNotice this box is empty. It should be empty since we assume your iPhone isnʼt on the same local network.

Thatʼs OK. We click the Manual Setup button.

Manual Device SetupHere we provide some crucial details.

Name the device profile whatever you want.

Set “Device” popup to match what you have.

Sync Method should be MobileMe

In the URL field, type the following path:idisk.me.com/yourUserName/Documents/iBankMobileSyncwhere yourUserName is whatever appears before “@me.com” in your MobileMe email address. In the example, my address is [email protected].

Wait for iBank to Sync to the MobileMe iDiskThe Device Setup window fills in the https:// protocol code for you, and shows a spinning gear indicator next to the Connect button.

Wait for this to finish, it normally takes less than a minute.

Synced DevicesThe device you set up should now appear in the window showing the devices iBank knows about.

Donʼt click “Done” yet... or if you did, just go back to File menu -> Setup Device for Syncing again.

Letʼs Sync!Click the “Sync Devices Now” button. This will upload your current data from iBank to the URL you specified on your MobileMe disk (but not on your phone just yet).

Note the spinning gear in the iBank toolbar, indicating that the sync is in progress. When itʼs done, youʼll see the regular toolbar icon:

Sanity CheckAfter the sync completes, we can verify that it was successful by bringing up the Finder and looking at your iDisk. The iDisk is part of your MobileMe account, itʼs an online place to store documents. iBank puts data there when you set it up for MobileMe Syncing.

In the Finder, click the Go menu, scroll down to iDisk, and choose “My iDisk”.

Look at the Documents folder in your iDiskYour iDisk has various folders in it by default. Much like your home folder on your Mac, it has a Documents folder. When you look in there after syncing iBank for the first time, you should see folder “iBankMobileSync”, which you defined during the iBank sync setup. Never mind whatʼs in it, just check that itʼs there.

iBank Mobile Setup (on your iPhone)The first step, of course, is to put iBank Mobile on your iPhone. Purchase it through the iTunes AppStore just like any other iPhone application. Itʼs not installed with iBank itself, which is sold separately and runs on your Mac.

Your iPhone will need Internet access for the next part. It doesnʼt matter whether that access is through a Wifi connection or through the cellular network using your AT&T data plan. As long as you can view a Web page in Safari, youʼre good to go.

Open iBank Mobile on your PhoneOpen iBank on your Phone, then touch the Settings button (wrench)

Watch the iPhone validate the new configurationIt says “Checking webDAV access...” even though you chose MobileMe, thatʼs OK because MobileMe actually uses webDAV behind the scenes.

If you get an error, make sure your iPhone is connected to the Internet. I have no cell phone reception at home, and in the screenshot at right I had wandered too far away from my Airport base station. Oops! I just walked back into range and touched “Done” again, then I saw the Checking webDAV screen above.

After iBank Mobile verifies the configuration, it returns you to the settings screen, where you can see the phone is set up to sync via MobileMe. It also tells you the current username.

Touch the Sync button on the iBank Mobile home screen, and watch your data syncEach time you want iPhone to get your latest data from MobileMe, touch the Sync button.

(Itʼs also a good habit to click “Sync Devices” in the Macʼs iBank toolbar each time you wrap up a session on your Mac, so MobileMe always has current data.

Sync your iBank data to the iPhoneItʼs time for your phone to start showing you financial numbers you recognize! Verify your phone has Internet access, again either wireless or through the cellular network.

iPhone connects to your iDisk and looks for the data iBank left there earlier...

... and downloads that data, containing any new transactions youʼve added to iBank since the last time you synced iBank Mobile.

And now youʼre Synced.
