Concordian International School works within the IB framework to deliver rigorous and challenging programs. Our course of study is drawn from both the IB and standards developed from around the world.

Our Early Years Program includes Nursery through Kindergarten 3. The Nurseryprogram welcomes students from the age of 2. Our Primary Years Program (PYP) runs from Grade 1 to Grade 5. The PYP promotes a supportive environment in which each child’s potential is nurtured through close attention and positivereinforcement.

The Middle Years Program (MYP), from Grades 6 to 10, accentuates the inter-relatedness of subject disciplines. Fundamental concepts are holistic education, communication and intercultural awareness.

The Diploma Program (DP) in Grades 11 and 12 is widely regarded as a passport to higher learning. The IB diploma is accepted by colleges and universities around the world.

At Concordian we believe that an immersion approach develops languageproficiency as well as intercultural awareness, critical thinking and problem solving. Students completing the Primary Years immersion program enter the Middle Years fluent in two to three languages and with an active appreciation of the world around them.

English is the primary language of instruction from Grades 5 to 12. Mandarin and Thai are taught as world languages. Other languages such as French and Spanish are offered in secondary school.

Students with no previous background in Chinese may enter at any grade level. To assist language development we offer additional support in English, Chinese and Thai.

LEADERSHIP, SERVICE, AND VALUE

As an IB school, Concordian always strives to provide different experiential learning opportunities for students not only in, but also out of, the classroom.

Two days a month our MYP Grade 6-8 students participate in ‘Special Thursday’ activities. Mixed grade level groups give our younger students a chance to work closely with their older peers in team orientated events and/or competitions. Throughout the school year various activities are presented to encourage team building and leadership. The friendly and relaxed environment enables students to take risks and develop new friendships

DP students carry out their CAS activity during the special schedule. Students visit different institutions in groups, and perform different activities with the community, such as teaching English and math, drawing, and singing. The program enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development. It also allows students to be aware of themselves as members of communities with responsibilities towards each other and the environment, to undertake challenges, and to consider the ethical implications of their actions.

Although CAS is meant for DP students, Concordian has extended this excellent practice down to MYP students in Grades 9 and 10. They take part in the service program during specially scheduled days together with DP students. Under the guidance of DP students, the Grade 9-10 students get to develop their leadership and collaboration skills. They plan, take action, observe and reflect on the activities together.

At Concordian, we believe that knowledge and skills are gained far beyond the classroom. Students here gain the understanding of teamwork, friendship, leadership, and compassion through various trips and expeditions throughout the year. Younger students go on trips to many places in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand where they learn about various aspects of life and the world. These programs include trips to museums, houses of parliament, non-profit organizations, government buildings, palaces, religious buildings, and many others. Our older students participate in specialized programs such as a Barge Trip where they practice their science skills in a hands-on, real world setting. On the Week Without Walls trip (Grades 6-10), students visit unfamiliar places to learn about cultures and friendship. Grade 11 students participate in a School Build project where they learn first-hand the meaning of giving. This project culminates in the building of a school in rural Thailand - providing underprivileged children with a school building as well as the necessities for their classrooms. The annual Tree Planting trip helps them to learn about renewable resources.

Our expedition programs, like everything else we do at Concordian, revolve around our mission statement, which is to nurture our students to becomecompassionate leaders of the future with integrity, vision, and intellect.

“Here, I realized that I have the power to give someone else a better life,” said a G11 student.

Drama is rooted in the universal human spirit to play, to imitate, to enact and to make believe. It originates in the desire to depict experiences, communicateunderstandings of those experiences, and to give them form and meaning. Drama has power within the school curriculum. It can promote higher-level thinking through inquiry, critical and constructive thought, problem solving, and skills of comparison, interpretation, judgment, discrimination, learning and research. Students at Concordian International School are given the opportunity to learn the skills and attitudes necessary to explore their personal creative interpretation of the world around them. Through drama education students will develop a sense of curiosity, inventiveness and freedom of expression. Drama education cultivates personal development, self-confidence and a variety of life-long learning skills.

Music is the expression of emotion, environments, and intellect through a non-verbal means of communication. At Concordian International School the students are presented with the Western European notation system, but its use is often in music from other cultures. Each student is exposed to a wide variety of music through time, distance, and effectual range. The musicians at Concordian focus on the concert band setting of presentation as well as more popular instrument combinations; depending on what they are trying to represent with their music. Opportunities for public performances are presenting themselves as we expand our size and capabilities. We have been honored recently by being invited to perform for His Majesty, the King of Thailand. Rewarding experiences such as these keep our students enthusiastic about our growing program.

COMBINED FOCUS IN SCIENCE,

ART, & TECHNOLOGY Along with a very strong English-Chinese Immersion Program fully authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), the disciplines of Science,Art and Technology are a focal point at Concordian International School, the proud owner of a brand-new purpose-built state-of-the-art Science, Art and Technology Center.

The learning philosophy at Concordian is based on the belief that mathematics and science are crucial subjects in the development of important skills that students will be able to use throughout their lives. Even though each youngster may not become a scientist or a mathematician, the ability to analyze facts, to find evidence systematically, to reason, and to question things around them will help themto view the world with an objective eye and cope with everyday problems in a systematic and logical way.

However, the school is also quick to acknowledge that artistic disciplines are vital to stimulating the creativity and imaginations of young learners. They promoteflexibility and gentleness, which are important characteristics when growing minds are faced with problems. Art also allows children to express their compassion towards others around them.

Through a combined focus on science, art and technology, the school is workingto equip its young charges with the essential tools to help them thrive in anincreasingly competitive world.

Life Skills Program is an experiential learning three-month program requiring students to live in in our beautiful, brand new, fully-equipped residence under the supervision of dorm parents. The foundation upon which this program was initiated is the belief that children learn best through experiences. Here, we aim to equip our students with essential skills for their future through a specially-designed program offering short courses and lessons for good living. Students will be nurtured to become mature young adults through well prepared activities, out-of-city trips, and exciting outdoor expeditions. The experience will allowstudents to explore their ability to live on their own, teach them to be moredisciplined and responsible, and to learn essential life skills as a foundation to go out into to the world with confidence. Dedicated dorm parents will enhance the students’ experiences throughout the program. *The Life Skills Program is optional for G8-G12 students.

COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

The Concordian Counseling and Learning Support Department encompasses every grade level from Nursery to Grade 12 ensuring the successful outcome for all students in the school to reach their highest potential in social, emotional, academic and career development. Working to facilitate open communication between parents, students and the school, counselors value the unique capabilitiesof each student and are advocates for their continued success. Consistent tracking of students’ progress enables a coordinated effort between teachers, counselors and learning support which increases students’ academic success. At any time, parents and students know that they have access to professional and caring advice on matters from personal and social concerns, school lifeadjustment, and academics. College and Career planning is one component of the counseling department. Students in the lower grades are exposed to a range of careers while exploringtheir learning styles and interests working toward effective study and time management skills. Students in secondary school receive support beyond this through college-prep classes that prepare them for their future career choices and with the college application process. Extensive resources, opportunities to practice taking aptitude tests such as the PSAT, personality and career interest inventories and exposure to detailed information about colleges through college fairs and presentations by university representatives are just some of the ways the counseling department ensures students receive the best support.
