IB Answer Booklet Guide
Advice from IB
* Follow the IB instructions and advice. * Don’t write your details on an answer book or graph paper until you
use it. ALL paper you write on is attached to your cover sheet. * If you use more than 2 answer books, number them as you go
along. * If you use graph paper, indicate this in your answer e.g. “see
attached graph”. * If you run out of space in the box of a structured paper write, e.g.
“continued in answer book” (don’t forget to write the question number in the answer book). * Notice to candidates, item 20: “It is the responsibility of the
candidate to ensure that the front page of their coversheet is correctly completed prior to departure from the examination room.”
Advice from the School
Exam Admin Reminders
* Reading Time: Reading only, pens down, no calculator! * New: Music students can listen to the CD during reading time
* Time calls: 30 minutes, then 5 minutes left*.
* *New: Invigilator announces, “You have 5 minutes left. Make sure you draw a line through any work not to be marked. If a whole question fill in the number box as well.”
* End of exam: * When you are told to stop writing you must fasten your work together
immediately and complete the cover sheet. * Crossing out rough work and writing session details on stationery must
be done in exam time.
* In the event of a fire alarm: * The invigilator will stop the exam and tell you to close your exam
paper. * Remain seated in silence, face forward, listen carefully and
follow instructions. * In the event of a false alarm: * The exam will be restarted when the alarm stops and you will be
given the full time to complete your exam. * In the rare event of an evacuation: * If you talk about the content of the exam you will not be
allowed to return when the exam resumes.
Emergency Procedure
* If you are unwell, try to come to school and take the exam. Inform Mrs Kane or an invigilator that you are unwell (especially important if you are infectious!).
* If illness has badly affected performance in exam, you may be eligible to apply for special consideration if you provide a doctor’s note.
* If doctor’s advice is not to sit an exam, you will only be able to apply for special consideration if you have already completed at least 50% of the assessments for that subject (which must include an externally assessed piece of work).
If you are Unwell on Exam Day
* Arrangements relating to public exams differ from those relating to the school as a whole. * Be aware that postponed exams may be rescheduled to start
in the evening or on Saturday. * Ask your parent/helper/sibling to check the school website
for announcements and rescheduled start times. * IMPORTANT: Do not access the internet yourself or
communicate with your friends unless absolutely necessary (the exam boards monitor the internet).
* If you have already left home, proceed to school unless it is unsafe or you are unable to do so. * If you are in school, you must remain there until you are told
it is safe to leave.
