Ian BarryBUILDER
Ian Barry has been called the “father of Judo on the Miramichi”. Beginning in 1974, the year after the club had begun, Ian became the principal coach and instructor at the Newcastle Judo Club. For the next ten years Ian produced students who achieved notable success at the local, provincial, national, and international levels. He has served as president of Judo New Brunswick, and as a judge and referee at countless provincial and national tournaments. His students participated in Canada Winter Games and the Pan-American Junior Judo Championships, and, to a man, his students attest to his outstanding leadership qualities.

Bette SullivanBUILDER
Bette Sullivan was intrigued one night as she watched ringette being played during an intermission feature on Hockey Night in Canada. She obtained some literature on ringette from a cousin in Ontario, lobbied for ice-time with the Newcastle Recreation Commission, attracted a group of about eighty girls to give it a try, and the rest is history. Since 1974 Bette has been devoted to providing opportunities in sport for young women, not only in ringette, but in softball and other recreational pursuits. The history of ringette in New Brunswick had its beginnings on the Miramichi and from 1973 to the mid 80s, Bette Sullivan was the primary motivator of its growth in her community

City of Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame
2009History
The City of Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame began as the Chatham Sports Wall of Fame in 1988. Inductions to the Chatham Wall of Fame were held annually until 1994, when Chatham became part of the City of Miramichi.
The Chatham Wall of Fame was revived in 2005 due to the initiative of Peter Nevin. This was to coincide with the 50th Anniversary observances for the Lord Beaverbrook Arena. Inductions to the Chatham Wall of Fame were made in 2005 and 2006 while discussions leading to the establishment of the City of Miramichi Wall of Fame were ongoing.
The current Board of Directors of the City of Miramichi Wall of Fame (names are listed on a separate page) was formed through a merger of the Chatham Sports Wall of Fame Committee and an exploratory committee, chaired by Bev Bawn. The City of Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame held it’s first induction ceremony in 2007.
2009
Inductees to the Chatham Wall of Fame have become members of the City of Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame. With the inclusion of this year’s inductees, the City of Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame will have a membership of: 5 Teams, 29 Builders, 38 Athletes and 2 Veteran Athletes for a total of 64 proud recipients of this honour.
The City of Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame Board of Directors looks forward to annually honouring athletes, builders and teams who have contributed significantly to the great legacy and tradition of Miramichi sports.
