I’m Jill D. Davey, author of ‘The Menopause Cure: Hormonal Health’.

In my book, I share my story of the menopause and delve deep into hormones. I explain about hormonal decline and imbalance as we age, and its connection to menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, brain fog, weight gain, fatigue, and many more symptoms. I also explain how this hormonal decline is linked to all age-related diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease - the three major killers of today.

In the book, I share the cure to hormonal imbalance; restorative medicine. A real medicine that strengthens the immune system and builds the body back up by balancing hormones with the use of bioidentical hormones (natural), high quality vitamins and minerals; together this is known as bioidentical hormone restorative therapy (BHRT).

This bioidentical hormones guide is a quick tool to help you; navigate new terminology, to better understand BHRT and restorative medicine as a medical speciality - understanding the major difference betweenBHRT and conventional HRT.

Its goal is to extend lifespan, and prolong youthspan and healthspan through early detection, prevention, treatment and reversal of age-related dysfunction, disorders and diseases. Restorative medicine has been embraced by thousands of physicians.

It is a very precise medicine that requires intricate blood tests. Once your blood samples are analysed, you will then be prescribed;

● bioidentical hormones● supplements ● vitamins and minerals based on where your

optimal levels should be

Restorative medicine and bioidentical hormones treat the same conditions. Restorative medicine restores the body with the use of bioidentical hormones together with vitamins and minerals, which all interact with each other.

Bioidentical hormones are 100% identical in chemical structure to those that are found in the human body.

They are derived from natural sources, such as wild yam and soya.

Based on your hormone levels, your doctor, together with an expert compounding pharmacy, will individually tailor a bioidentical hormone programme specifically designed for you. Each regime is centered around you - the individual patient.

Bioidentical hormones cannot be patented by the pharmaceutical companies because they are natural - natural products cannot be patented.

Bioidentical hormone restorative therapy (BHRT) replaces the missing hormones, therefore corrects hormonal deficiencies and imbalances that occur with age. It obtains and maintains optimal balance within your body and its systems, which in turn achieves optimal health.

When we restore hormones not only do we correct menopausal symptoms, such as weight gain, depression, fatigue, hot flushes, hair loss, you rebuild the immune system, which protects against cancers, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease, to name a few.

Perimenopause is the precursor to menopause, which can cause many symptoms because of hormonal loss and fluctuation.

This is when your body is in a state of hormonal imbalance, which potentially has dangerous consequences; the female sex hormones, oestrogen(s) and progesterone levels fluctuate daily, causing inconsistent surges.

It is these surges that cause symptoms such as unexplained weight gain, mood swings, hot flushes, lack of sex drive, sleep disorders, uterine fibroids, breast cancer, aching joints, etc.

These symptoms are warning signs, telling us all is not well within the body.

There are many causes to hormonal loss or decline, but the major reason is age.

We age because our hormones decline, our hormones do not decline because we age! Hormonal decline plays an important role in our mental, physical and emotional state, and in all illnesses.

Other reasons for diminished hormone production are nutritional deficiencies, exposure to toxins, chronic stress which seriously impacts hormone production, lack of sleep, malnutrition, lack of sunlight, long-term use of over-the-counter and prescription medications.

6.Conventional (Synthetic) HRT

Synthetic hormones (HRT) are foreign molecules with a certain level of toxicity, and confuse the body, creating a drastic and risky situation, including breast cancer and heart disease.

PremPro is commonly prescribed form of HRT. Yet few women realise it’s a combo drug made from pregnant mare’s urine and progestins (fake progesterone). Synthetic hormones are a one-size-fits-all approach, which do not address the person’s individual needs.Conventional doctors make a diagnosis based on your age and symptoms, not comprehensive blood tests.

For more information on the horses used to manufacture pharmaceutical HRT drugs, Premarin and Prempro see PETA.

Synthetic hormones are created in specific, patented doses and delivery methods (not customized), therefore regulation is possible. Regulation is not possible for bioidentical hormones because they are tailored to individuals.

Are bioidentical hormones safe?

An overwhelming body of evidence shows that bioidentical hormones are a safer and more effective option, therefore much more attractive to the populace when dealing with menopause, andropause and the ageing process.

As bioidentical hormones are derived from natural sources which are then bioengineered in a lab to become an exact copy of the human hormone, the body metabolises them correctly; meaning they are safe, compatible, efficient and useable molecules.

It is vital for anyone intending to start a bioidentical hormone therapy programme, to consult with a qualified hormone specialist in restorative medicine, so as to safeguard themselves from side effects.

Can my GP or pharmacist provide BHRT?

In a word, no. BHRT is not mass produced, you cannot buy it over the counter as you would a vitamin or supplement.

You need a doctor who is qualified in restorative medicine. BHRT is a hormone therapy that is tailored to your individual needs.

The amount and dosage of each prescription is dependent on many factors. It is important for anyone intending to start a bioidentical hormone restorative therapy programme, to consult with a qualified hormone specialist in restorative medicine.

9.

Where can I find a BHRT specialist?

It is important to remember that when you search for a doctor he is qualified. Hormones are hormones and have to be finely balanced for them to function correctly and optimally.

Any medicine requires extensive training, and this is especially so when balancing hormones.

This medicine is not something that is traditionally taught in medical schools. Always check that he/she is certified.

Menopause Woman will only recommend experts who we know and trust, and who are fully qualified in this domain.

How much should I expect to pay?

The cost of bioidentical hormone restorative therapy varies from person to person. Each BHRT programme is tailored for each patient and is based on their individual needs, symptoms and ailments.

As the programme is individualised, it is extremely difficult to estimate a cost. BHRT is available in the UK privately and costs vary from patient to patient according to their needs.

10.

How long do I take them for?

BHRT is for life, this is the great thing with this regimen, it keeps us safe for life, unlike synthetic HRT, which cannot be taken for any longer than five years, due to the high risk of breast cancer and heart disease.

BHRT has been shown to be extremely safe and effective for correcting and eliminating all menopausal symptoms, along with protecting against the long-term effects of hormonal decline in menopause and the ageing process; heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer, cognitive decline, and all chronic disease.
