DESCRIPTION

IAEA The first meeting was held in April 2002 at Kloster Seeon, Germany. By the number of participants here present we can certainly conclude that was with good opportunity that, following advise from the IFRC, the Agency has introduced this topic in the Fusion TM’s. We have 49 participants representing 21 countries The meeting is organized in 8 sessions addressing four main topics: Improved Confinement Turbulence and Non-Linear Instabilities Energetic Particle Physics Interaction of Macroscopic Instabilities and Transport Process The meeting ends with a summary session

I like to take this opportunity to thank the International Advisory Committee for their work in the evaluation of abstracts and preparation of the programme.

In particular I like to thank the Chair of the IAC, Taik Hahm, for the very good coordination between the IAC work and the Agency and ICTP requests.

I also like to thank the local organizers Brian Stewart and his assistant, Mrs. Ave Lusenti, for taking care of all the host activities, construction of the web page, the intense emails exchange with participants and to make sure that participants can have a successful meeting and enjoy the beauty of this place.

Acknowledges

The first meeting was held in 9 - 12 April 2002 at Kloster Seeon, Germany. By the number of participants here present we can certainly conclude that was with good opportunity that, following advise from the IFRC, the Agency has introduced this topic in the Fusion TM’s.

We have 49 participants representing 21 countries

The meeting is organized in 8 sessions addressing four main topics:

•Improved Confinement

•Turbulence and Non-Linear Instabilities

•Energetic Particle Physics

•Interaction of Macroscopic Instabilities and Transport Process

The meeting ends with a summary session

The contributions are distributed by

•6 Overview presentations

•22 Invited presentations

•23 Posters

The summary of the meeting will be submitted for publication in Nuclear Fusion.

Summaries provide a very important tool in helping the Agency to plan its activities in the different topics of Fusion. It gives a record of the main outputs of the meeting and will provide in course of time a history of the progress in the different topics

Summaries make also possible to publish a short overview of the presentations which will not appear in the proceedings giving therefore a concise but full coverage of the meeting.
