IAEA 36th Consultative Meeting of INIS Liaison Officers 2 The 13 th INIS/ETDE Joint Technical Committee Meeting, October 2011, Vienna, Austria Actions and Recommendations Need to assist INIS national centres on all aspects of INIS operations; Review the INIS Collection, including its timelines, coverage and other features, to be analysed and a report presented at the next JTC meeting; Need for an efficient training tool to be used by a new generation of INIS/ETDE data processing specialists, and recommend the creation of an audio-visual training course to be made available through the INIS website; Mutual learning from INIS and ETDE experiences, use of best practices, and encouragement of further enhancement through the use of Web 2.0/Web 3.0 features; Further improvements to the INIS website and its use on mobile devices; Use INIS search widget and add links to INIS and ETDE from their web pages; Need for INIS and ETDE to stay attuned to new web developments and regularly review possible ways to use these technologies to enhance usage and build communities; Make Google Analytics reports available to Member States for their perusal; Replace existing INIS CD-ROM/DVD production with online products and applications; Use of open access publications on the Internet to increase the coverage of national literature; Creation of a Working Group to support the activities within the ONIXS project; Recommend the creation of a Working Group to review and propose: a)A strategic direction for further development of INIS and ETDE b)b) Ways to improve participation of Member States c)c) How to increase the number of newly submitted full-text documents (NCL) d)d) Ways to achieve greater use of open access publications e)e) Ways for the most beneficial and efficient use of social media To open the INIS Newsletter to articles and information coming from ILOs, making it a communication channel for the INIS community. 24 January 2016

The 13th INIS/ETDE Joint Technical Committee Meeting, 20-21 October 2011, Vienna, Austria Actions and Recommendations

The 13th INIS/ETDE Joint Technical Committee Meeting was held from 20 to 21 October 2011 in Vienna, with 12 countries participating. 27 Actions and Recommendations were adopted.

• Successful introduction of the new Google-based INIS Collection Search and further improvements of the INIS Collection search capabilities and features;

• Greater use and reliance on electronic forums for organizing INIS/ETDE Working Group activities;• Concern about the submission of bibliographic and full-text input by a number of INIS Members, and the

balance of contributions to the INIS Collection between INIS Member States and the INIS Secretariat;• Development of a new version of WinFIBRE to be made available to Member States;• Support for XML becoming the standard format for all INIS processes;• Development of a new multi-source input model to support open access standards;• Move towards Unicode;• Use of the Conference Authority Tool (CAT) to identify missing nuclear conferences in the INIS Collection

and informing Member States about the gaps;• Use of Computer Assisted Indexing (CAI) remote access and batch processing possibilities;• Review by the Advisory Group of the possibility that one of the electronic versions of the INIS/ETDE Joint

Thesaurus be declared the “base” version and that this version be referred to for future supplements;• Review by the INIS/ETDE Thesaurus Advisory Group of enhancements and improvements to the Thesaurus

and the Subject Categories publications and procedures;• Negotiation of terms by the ETDE Operating Agent for leasing the INIS/ETDE Thesaurus to Elsevier,

preferably in exchange for a number of INIS subject related bibliographic records;• Need to speed up digitization of the remaining microfiche and make them available through the online INIS

Collection;
