Event Description

Technical Meet

One Technical meet is organized by IADC where all Drilling contractors

have a brief discussion on latest trends in the Drilling Industry. The plan is to

allow few of our students to participate in these technical meets accompanied

by faculty

Social

activities

In accordance with the World Peace University and its ideology, we have

planned to visit some of the under-privileged people and understand their

problems and find out if our students can up ideas to help them.

Industry Visits

With the support of IADC and industry professional, we plan to take our

students to a one-day visit to various oil and gas companies and if possible,

on a working or maintenance Rig.

Guest Lectures

Industry professionals from companies such as ONGC and other drilling

contractors will be invited to share their experience and motivate our

students and help them understand the current needs of the industry and

possibly improve the contacts with the industry professionals.

Certified

Training

courses

Our students need to stand out in the competition with the other college and

the only way is to add extra certification courses provided by the industry

experts.

MIT-IADCTe

First IADC SC magazine

Our first magazine MIT-IADCTe by IADC MIT SC launched on 10th May

2020 on Impact of covid-19 on oil and gas industry which contains 20+ articles

from students as well as industrial professionals

ESSENCIA

Personality development

program

Industry professionals from various companies will be invited to guide students to

improve their personality. Webinars on soft skill development, interview skill

development motivates our students and help them to understand need of personality

development.

IADC is a tremendous platform for the students to present their skills and showcase their talent.

This opportunity of organizing events under IADC will encourage the students to network with

industry professionals and stay connected to the practical life.

VISIT - MIT Pune

PAGE 2

A trip to an offshore rig was organized on the 10th of October 2019 for B.E. Petroleum Students

of MIT Pune at the Chougule-Lavgan Port, Jaigad. A total of 26 students accompanied by two

faculties visited the rig.

Students getting directed by Chougule-Lavgan Port gaurds

The students travelled from Pune in a pre-arranged bus which left early in the morning at 7:00 A.M.

They reached at around 5:00 P.M. and halted overnight in a hotel in Ratnagiri Town. The following

morning, they left for Jaigad via the coastal highway and reached the dockyard around 9:00 A.M

The students were given an HSE induction by the crew to help understand the importance of HSE

on drilling facilities and also in the Oil and Gas industry. The safety protocol, colour-coding

system, alarm systems and other company safety rules were explained. The students were also

provided with PPE (personnel protection equipment) to prevent any unwanted mishaps as

maintenance work was ongoing on the facility.

The students were also provided with lunch in the Rig cafeteria and the hospitality was impeccable

and all students were satisfied.

The crew first took students to see the rig floor; here the crew explained all the equipment present

such as the TDS (Top Drive System), crown block, travelling block, draw-works, driller’s cabin etc. The

draw-works was an E-2100 Ideco model with a rating of 2100 H.P. The students were then led to

see where the MWD team and Logging team set up their workstations during the time of drilling.

Also, the students were taken to the mud lab. Following this, the BOP system and circulation

systems were shown. The rig allows storage for two BOP stacks simultaneously. Also, while

drilling a comprehensive project the rig is jacked-up in one location and the cantilever and rig

floor move aft, starboard, port and bow sides with the help of pneumatic systems in place and by

the use of skids.

equipment’s such as the Shale Shaker, Degasser, Desander, Desilter, Poor Boy Gas Separator and

all the complex flow lines were explained. As the rig is designed for handling H2S all the tanks

are enclosed ones.

Following this, the Mud Pumps were shown to the students and how they operate was explained.

There were two single-action triplex mud pumps. These were supported by two individual

superchargers. The purpose and the importance of every aspect of equipment present on board

were explained and how each system is necessary for smooth operations. Students were then taken

to the engine room and the electric control room.

The entire visit was a huge success and the students had a great experience both learning wise as

well as practically. The knowledge gained in books is only supplemented by practical knowledge

gained in this fashion and the importance of such visits cannot be discounted.

The visit would not have been possible without the support of IADC and Shri. Arun Karle.

The School of Petroleum was awarded with the first international IADC student

chapter on 23rd September 2019 by Mr. Jason McFarland (President, IADC). With

this, an opportunity to attend the Middle East conference came, the description of

which is mentioned below.

Over the two days of December 10-11, 2019, IADC brought together drilling

contractors for a discussion on various topics and an exhibition. Presentations and

pane discussions were held during this period.

The first day started with the opening of the conference and it was followed by a

speech of the CEO of ADNOC, Mr. Abdalla Saeed Al-Suwaidi. He also had an

interaction with *the students of MIT, Pune*.

P A G E 2

During the interaction, he motivated us for the future and also had a brief talk

about the current happenings in the industry. This was followed by a small

networking break wherein we could interact with various industry professionals

and also gain knowledge through the exhibition.

The next session included presentations by

professionals from National Oilwell Varco,

Valaris, Dubai Petroleum, Cansco

Well Control, Helmerich & Payne and

RigQuip. The topic for this session was

OEM vs NON-OEM Certification. They

debated about the pros and cons of

equipment repair and re-certification

utilization OEM’s and API accredited re-

manufacturing facilities.

P A G E 3

After this was lunch wherein, we had interaction with various industralists.

The session after lunch was the

session on upcoming field in

petroleum industry of artificial

intelligence and big data.

Companies like RigNet,

American Bureau of Shipping

and Helmerich & Payne

Technologies presented on

Buisness through AI and digital

transformation, cyber security

and automation respectively.

This was followed by networking break and then a session on human factors, training and

developing by Vantage Drilling and KCA Deutag.

P A G E 4

Day two started with welcoming and safety briefing. The session after that was on

the ‘Market Outlook’ by a professional from Clarksons Platou. The discussion that

followed was by the Vice President of Accreditation operations of IADC on

‘Competence assurance through continuous learning.’

After this was a networking break

and open exhibition. The next

session was the most interesting

and informative session for us as

students and young upcoming

petroleum engineers. It was a panel

discussion on ‘Impact and outlook

for young professionals in drilling

industry’ where the speakers

encouraged us as the next generation for this big industry and gave us insights into how

to improve performance and take a stand infront of professionals.

P A G E 5

The next on the agenda was luncheon and

open exhibition. The session later was a

presentation on ‘In-Country Value

Operations’ by ADNOC group.
