IADC offers industry-driven accreditation programs that are recognized internationally. These programs serve to guide companies in their efforts to ensure comprehensiveness of their critical training content and adherence to recognized industry standards.

The Accreditation & Credentialing Division holds accredited providers to high quality standards, thus assuring that drilling industry personnel can be properly equipped to perform their jobs safely and competently.

IADC’s accreditation programs are developed, revised, published, and supported by IADC members working through our technical committees. The credentialing process involves a detailed application, technical review, site visit, and quality assurance.

Accreditation & Credentialing Programs

Drilling Industry Training

The Drilling Industry Training (DIT) Accreditation System provides a means of industry review and recognition for training providers’ custom designed courses that do not otherwise qualify for one of IADC’s specialized accreditation programs.

By requiring consistency in design, delivery, and documentation of training, the DIT program ensures that specialized courses transfer practical knowledge and that course participants have similar learning experiences through the course.

Competence Assurance

The Competence Assurance Accreditation (CAA) Program is designed to assure that in-house competence programs meet accepted practices for developing and ensuring the skills of personnel.

Companies accredited must demonstrate a commitment to having a competent workforce through processes for defi ning competencies and assessing and maintaining individual competencies. Consistent program oversight, administration, and quality control must be maintained.

Helicopter Underwater Escape Training

The Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) accreditation program for tropical waters assists oil and gas companies working offshore in the Gulf of Mexico in obtaining consistent training for their personnel.

IADC and its committee members developed the curriculum and program requirements for accrediting training providers to deliver a 1-day HUET course that consistently meets a high standard. The course focuses on the specifi c knowledge and skills needed to prepare personnel for helicopter transport to warm-water work locations.

Ballast Control & Stability

Ballast Control/Stability accreditation is for providers of marine stability training and is operated in conjunction with the Nautical Institute, based in London.

The Ballast Control/Stability system establishes training guidelines based on International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements. The program fulfills international flag state training requirements for Ballast Control Operator, Barge Supervisor, and Offshore Installation Manager licenses.

Following coursework, individuals can obtain IADC Ballast Control Operation Certification after documenting sea time service and task proficiency.

Well Control

WellCAP promotes a comprehensive well control culture throughout the drilling industry, within individual companies, and at every stage of the drilling process. WellCAP offers curriculum guidelines for a full array of drilling and workover activities.

Accredited training providers must meet criteria for training exercises, test administration, and course management.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability (KSA) Competencies

KSA competencies are IADC’s answer to the need for globally accepted competency standards. Essentially, KSA competencies list the recommended capabilities that rig-based personnel must possess to safely and consistently fulfill their jobs.

Originally published in 2000 for 12 rig-based positions, IADC has since expanded the KSA competencies to include virtually all rig-based personnel. KSA competencies provide a basis for recruiting, training, assessing and validating competence.

The KSA competencies will be available at no charge via a database accessible through the IADC website. The database will be searchable for the core competencies of a specific role, and will also allow the user to filter competencies based on attributes such as rig type, rig location, and equipment.

The IADC KSA competencies were created by the industry, for the industry through diverse workgroups made up of representatives from a variety of types of companies, and will help ensure that the competence of our workforce stays on-pace with the evolution of our industry.

Workforce Attraction & Development Initiative

The Workforce Attraction & Development Initiative (WADI) is a collaborative effort among IADC, colleges on a national level, and other training providers to deliver career development pathways based on the KSAs identified by the industry.

The WADI project addresses the industry’s urgent need for:

> Pre-trained/Pre-qualified entry-level new-hire candidates

> Personal development trajectories and career guidance for new-hire personnel and existing rig-based personnel

Benefits:

> Expedite the building of a qualified labor pool of new employees

> Provide continuous improvement opportunities for current employees

> Standardize globally accepted pathways for career development

> Provide centralized and verifiable records of employee training and credentialing

> Reduce cost to contractors through decreased employee turnover rate
